Rockies rookie catcher Wilin Rosario swung through a pitch and stayed in the batter's box even though he had struck out in a humorous sequence against the Milwaukee Brewers. Rosario took a big cut at a breaking ball by starter Zack Greinke and didn't leave the box in the second inning of Tuesday night's game. Greinke stepped off the mound and held up three fingers, confirming with plate umpire Tim McClellan that Rosario had indeed struck out. David Wright was ready to take one for the team. Terry Collins was not going to let that happen. So the Mets manager pulled his star third baseman. "In this game there are unwritten rules and one of the unwritten rules is you hit my guy, I'm hitting your guy. They're not hitting my guy tonight," Collins said following the Mets' 8-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. "He said, 'If somebody should be hit, I want it to be me.' I said it's not going to be you. " Wright was set to lead off the bottom of the seventh.

NEW YORK - When the phone rang, Zack Greinke let it go; he didn’t recognize the number. Only after listening to the voice mail did he call back and find out he’d won the American League Cy Young Award. The Kansas City Royals ace easily beat out Felix Hernandez for the honor yesterday after a spectacular season short on wins but long on domination. Winning left the extremely shy Greinke with mixed emotions. “Back in Orlando, I haven’t really got a whole lot of attention from people, which has been nice,’’ he said.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Zack Greinke talked last winter about a pitcher reaching that perfect blend, where physical ability exactly matches mental ability. So with a 5-0 record after five starts and a microscopic ERA, is he there? "I'm trying to get to that," he said. "But not yet. " The Kansas City righthander is close, though. He gave up an earned run for the first time in 43 innings, but Billy Butler belted two homers last night and the Kansas City Royals pounded 11 extra-base hits in an 11-3 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Duncan hit his second three-run homer in three games to lead the Indians to a 3-2 win over a Kansas City Royals split squad on Tuesday. "He's a bat that at any moment can pop one out," Indians manager Manny Acta said of Duncan, who had seven homers and 23 RBIs in 26 games in September. Duncan homered in the third inning off reliever Zach Miner, who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2010.

Despite falling short against the Brewers, the Houston Astros believe they showed that opponents can't take them for granted. Brian Bogusevic drove in three runs, including two during a seventh-inning rally and Jed Lowrie hit his first home run, but it wasn't enough as the Astros lost 6-5 to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night. Lowrie credited the team for persevering after they trailed Milwaukee 6-2 in the top of the seventh. "We need to continue to grind it out," Lowrie said.

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke had a great game on the mound and at the plate. He still needs to work on his baserunning. Greinke struck out eight in a spring-high seven innings, leading the Brewers to a 7-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. "Usually I don't do much more than work on my pitches," said Greinke, who allowed one run and five hits. "Usually I just throw pitches in stupid counts just to see what happens. The NL Central-leading Brewers stayed a franchise-best 10 ½ games ahead of St. Louis after the Cardinals beat Pittsburgh 7-4.
