When "We Are Wizards" hit the festival circuit last year, it was well-liked but sometimes criticized for offering too rambling a tour of the Harry Potter fan subculture. Maybe so. But the documentary sweetly focuses our attention on the way human creativity transforms everything around it. Often in the nuttiest of ways, true. But still, it's a good thing. Most prominent here are the Wizard Rock bands, including Boston's own Harry and the Potters and Rhode Island's Draco and the Malfoys, both of whom draw rooms full of teenage girls with their funny lo-fi rock about Hogwarts crushes and rivalries.

John Wall had 21 points and 13 assists as the Washington Wizards won their fifth straight to extend their longest winning streak since 2007, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-85 on Wednesday night. Wall had 12 points, six assists and four steals in the third quarter, when he accounted for 24 of Washington's 28 points and helped the Wizards open a 14-point lead. Wall added seven rebounds and seven steals. While Washington's star guard put on a show, Cleveland's watched. Kyrie Irving, expected to be named the NBA's rookie of the year next month, played only 10 minutes — all in the...

It’s as if Kevin Garnett is on a revenge tour, going around the NBA and checking off the names of anybody who dunked on him, doubted, or trash-talked the Celtics forward last season when he was coming back from knee surgery. And after the battles they had last spring, Washington’s Andray Blatche, of course, was on the list. Garnett got in Blatche’s head during a close victory in March, using a lip-to-cheek maneuver to derail the Wizards forward’s 23-point night. But when they met a month later, Blatche was tougher — putting up 31 points and 11 rebounds in a Wizards victory that sent a message to...

CARSON, Calif. - The Kansas City Wizards advanced to the Western Conference final by holding Chivas USA to a scoreless draw last night. The Wizards beat Chivas, 1-0, in Kansas City a week ago and claimed the aggregate-goals series with their lone goal. Kansas City will visit the Houston Dynamo Saturday. Chivas USA finished first in the Western Conference but could not overcome the absence of second-leading scorer Ante Razov. Razov sprained ligaments in his left knee Oct. 11 and Chivas scored one goal in five games since.

WASHINGTON - The Wizards seem to be the only NBA team that has the Celtics' number this season. The Celtics ended a seven-game winning streak with a 109-95 loss to Washington last night at a sold-out Verizon Center. Boston (62-16) lost the season series, 3-1, to Washington (41-37). The Wizards' three wins over Boston were by an average of 13 points. "They've played great against us, there has been no doubt about it," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. "Obviously, if we face them in the playoffs, they should have great confidence.

The team leading the league in losses beat the team leading the league in wins. In the closest thing they'll have to a playoff game this year, Gilbert Arenas and the Wizards recovered after blowing a 14-point second-half lead and ended the franchise-record 13-game winning streak of LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers with a 109-101 victory last night in Washington. Arenas, playing his second game of the season in his latest attempt to return from knee surgery, had 11 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds.

It gave the Wizards their first four-game winning streak since Dec. 9-13, 2007. The 28-point margin of victory equaled their largest in the season. With the playoffs a week away, Dwyane Wade left the Miami Heat arena Saturday night with his swollen finger in a splint — and considered himself lucky. Wade played less than 3 minutes before dislocating his left index finger but avoided serious injury as the Heat lost 86-84 to the woeful Washington Wizards. A doctor reset Wade's finger, and X-rays were negative. "I'm not going to cry about it," he said. "When I was sitting on the table before they could put it back in, the worst-case scenario was surgery, and the best-case scenario was this.

Kevin Seraphin had 21 points and 13 rebounds, John Wall scored 16 points, and the Washington Wizards beat the short-handed Chicago Bulls 87-84 on Monday night. Richard Hamilton scored 22 points to lead the Bulls, who played without stars Derrick Rose and Luol Deng. Rose was out with a sore right foot as he missed his 24th game of the season, and Deng sat out due to sore right ribs. After two straight games of clutch 3-pointers in the finals seconds to force overtime in wins against Miami and Detroit, the Bulls missed a third chance when Hamilton's 3-pointer...

Greg Monroe had 18 points and seven rebounds, Rodney Stuckey scored 15 points in his return from injury, and Ben Wallace made five key free throws down the stretch as the Detroit Pistons beat the Washington Wizards 99-94 Thursday night. Even with Monroe playing well, Pistons coach Lawrence Frank went with the 37-year-old Wallace down the stretch to help stop John Wall's penetration. The Wizards were missing Nene and Trevor Booker with foot injuries, but rallied from a 20-point deficit to pull within five late in the game.
