CANTON, Ohio -- Joe Gibbs came back for this? While his Washington Redskins beat the Denver Broncos, 20-17, on a last-second 39-yard field goal by Ola Kimrin last night in the Hall of Fame game, the Hall of Fame coach saw enough mistakes to fill an entire preseason. And then some. Still, the Redskins marched efficiently to the winning kick behind third-string quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, offsetting a long night of general inefficiency. The Broncos were even worse for most of the game.

IRVING, Texas -- As much as the Washington Redskins would have settled for any kind of victory over the Dallas Cowboys, this one was especially sweet. Mark Brunell hit Santana Moss in stride for touchdown passes of 39 and 70 yards in the final 3:46, then the defense made it stand up, giving Washington a 14-13 victory last night. The Redskins had lost 14 of the last 15 meetings, and they won at Texas Stadium for the first time since 1995. The comeback was stunning because Washington hadn't crossed the Dallas 27-yard line until Moss's first touchdown, which also was the first of the season...

LANDOVER, Md. — Michael Vick, not Donovan McNabb, played like a $78 million quarterback, accounting for six touchdowns all by himself. And his Philadelphia Eagles marched down the field in one big chunk after another, doing it enough times to put new entries in the various record books. On a day the Washington Redskins hoped to celebrate McNabb’s new five-year contract extension (with $40 million guaranteed) and set aside the swirl of distractions from his benching two weeks earlier, Vick and the Eagles stormed the party and thoroughly embarrassed their NFC East rivals, 59-28,...

LANDOVER, Md. - Todd Collins kept waiting for another chance to play in the NFL. And waiting . . . and waiting . . . and waiting. Forget about the five years without throwing for a touchdown. How about the three years without so much as attempting a pass? The veteran from Walpole, Mass., finally was called upon last night by the weary Washington Redskins, and Collins performed brilliantly. Replacing injured starter Jason Campbell, Collins tossed two TDs to lead Washington over the fading Chicago Bears, 24-16, ending the Redskins' four-game losing streak.

PHILADELPHIA — Donovan McNabb is changing uniforms and staying in the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles traded McNabb to the Washington Redskins for a pair of draft picks last night. The Eagles will receive a second-round pick (37th overall) in this month’s NFL draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year. “Donovan McNabb was more than a franchise quarterback for this team,’’ Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said. “I look forward to honoring him as one of the greatest Eagles of all time and hopefully see him enshrined in the Pro Football...

LANDOVER, Md. -- Bill Parcells celebrated the touchdown with a big smile and his fist thrust high in the air. The Dallas Cowboys coach had turned the trick that put his old nemesis on the ropes. Richie Anderson's halfback option pass floated into the hands of former Patriot Terry Glenn in the back of the end zone early in the fourth quarter, and the Cowboys sacked Mark Brunell five times in last night's 21-18 victory over Joe Gibbs and the Washington Redskins. In the first meeting in 14 years between two of the NFL's top coaches, Parcells showed he still has Gibbs's number.
