Former Celtics assistant and current Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau expressed confidence this morning that his former team will be a factor in the Eastern Conference. The 4-5 Celtics face the 10-2 Bulls tonight in what could be a critical game for Boston. The Celtics have the ninth-best record in the east. "They're fine," he said. "I think tough schedule with (Paul) Pierce being hurt ... the core of the team is intact. (Rajon) Rondo is a superstar now, so they have four star players.

Derrick Rose was out again for the Bulls' game against Boston on Sunday with what coach Tom Thibodeau called "stiffness" in his back and will see a specialist when the team gets back to Chicago. The reigning MVP also missed Friday's win at Charlotte. "It's not as cleared up as we would have liked right now," Thibodeau said before Sunday's game. "He's still got some stiffness. We thought it would be better to have him sit out. " Rose hurt his back earlier in the week and was limited in a win over New Orleans on Wednesday.

DORCHESTER -- Celtics president Danny Ainge could say nothing about the current NBA lockout or risk a $1 million fine but he could expound on the Celtics' coaching staff, which will be dramatically different than last year. With Lawrence Frank, Darren Erman, and big man coach Roy Rogers gone, Ainge said today that the club will not make any more additions to the staff, meaning just-promoted Mike Longabardi is likely to fill Frank's role as defensive coordinator.
