BEVERLY - In a phone conversation on the afternoon of Feb. 24, Beverly police Officer Jason Lantych offered to meet Hamilton police Sergeant Kenneth Nagy. Lantych said he would discuss the relationship he had with Nagy's wife - but only "in a public place so he wouldn't get shot. " "Nagy just laughed it off," according to a State Police report. Details of the violent confrontation that followed between the two men and Katherine Nagy's relationship with Lantych are contained in investigative reports released Thursday by Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and the Beverly Police Department.

SAN DIEGO — Junior Seau's death has been ruled a suicide by the San Diego County medical examiner's office. An autopsy Thursday confirmed that the former NFL linebacker died of a gunshot wound to the chest, the medical examiner's office said. Officials said they were awaiting a decision by the family on whether to turn over Seau's brain to unidentified outside researchers for study. Seau died Wednesday in his home in suburban Oceanside. OMAHA - In the first surveillance images released of a teenage gunman's shopping mall rampage, the shaggy-haired assailant can be seen raising an assault rifle to fire in front of a department store mannequin. Police released three still images yesterday, two days after 19-year-old Robert A. Hawkins killed eight people and himself at the Von Maur store at Westroads Mall. The images at first show Hawkins walking into the mall unarmed, wearing glasses and a black zippered sweat shirt over a black T-shirt with a white logo.

FOXBOROUGH - As news of Junior Seau's death continued to cast a dark shadow over offseason workouts at Gillette Stadium Thursday, several Patriots, including team owner Robert Kraft and coach Bill Belichick, shared their memories of the popular linebacker. Kraft, fighting back tears, read a note that Seau sent him a few weeks after Myra Kraft passed away last year, and recalled fondly Seau's pregame motivational speeches and postgame embraces. ATKINSON, N.H. -- Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston who killed himself last week, left a note in which he called himself "a lonely soul," police reports released yesterday indicate. Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. Police said Delp sealed himself in a bathroom with two charcoal grills sometime between 11:30 p.m. March 8 and the next afternoon, when his fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, found him on the bathroom floor, his head on a pillow and a note paper-clipped to his shirt.

NEW YORK — A Yale University junior left a suicide note in his dorm room before heading to New York, where he apparently plunged to his death by jumping from the Empire State Building, police said yesterday. Cameron Dabaghi, 21, from Austin, Texas, jumped from the 86th floor observation deck Tuesday during evening rush hour. His note said he was sorry and he would be jumping from either the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River in upper Manhattan, or the Empire State building, police said.

The death of rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose, who formed an eponymous band in the 1970s and played with heavy hitters such as Van Morrison and Herbie Hancock, has been ruled a suicide. The San Francisco Chronicle reports ( http://bit.ly/Hqcl67) the San Mateo County coroner has concluded that Montrose took his own life last month at his home in Millbrae, Calif. His widow, Leighsa Montrose, tells the newspaper that her 64-year-old husband was tormented by clinical depression for much of his life.

Former Libyan oil minister Shukri Ghanem, whose body was found floating Sunday in the Danube river, died from drowning, Austrian police said. Autopsy results on Ghanem's corpse showed no signs of violence, police spokesman Roman Hahslinger said Monday. The body was found in a section of the Danube that runs through Vienna close to where he had a residence. Ghanem last year announced he was abandoning Gadhafi's regime to support the rebels who ultimately toppled the dictator.

Police say four South Koreans have been found dead in an apparent group suicide. Police say the bodies of two men and two women in their 20s were found Thursday in a parked van in Seongju, about 190 miles (300 kilometers) southeast of Seoul. Police believe the four killed themselves by burning coal briquettes and inhaling fumes because burned briquettes were found in the car and the windows were sealed with tape. Police say a suicide note was found. South Korea has one of the world’s highest suicide rates and the highest in the developed world.
