Photographer Cheryl Richards hosted a party at her studio the other night, and among the guests was famed photographer Marie Cosindas, cofounder of the Association of Heliographers, a short-lived but influential photographers' cooperative. Cosindas, who had a solo show at the Museum of Modern Art in the 1960s, is perhaps best known for her portraits of such celebrities as Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Faye Dunaway, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, and Tom Wolfe. Richards's party was a fund-raiser for the Victim Rights Law Center.

The exodus at 38 Studios LLC has begun. Two senior officials, including its chief executive, appear to have left as the video game company founded by former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling runs low on cash. The chief executive, Jen MacLean, had already been on maternity leave. But she and John Blakely, senior vice president for product development, recently changed their profiles on the business networking site LinkedIn to indicate they no longer work at 38 Studios. MacLean, a former Comcast executive who joined 38 Studios in 2008, declined to comment.

Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video game company, 38 Studios, has laid off all of its employees in the wake of financial difficulties, according to a key company consultant. The company, which had close to 400 employees in Providence and Timonium, Md., attracted top talent from the video game industry. "I'm stunned, and I'm heartbroken," said R.A. Salvatore, a Leominster fantasy author who was a consultant to 38 Studios and whose son worked at the company. "This is one of the best teams I've ever seen assembled.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. fell after "Puss in Boots," the spinoff from the studio's "Shrek" movies, missed analysts' estimates in its weekend theatrical debut. The movie opened with $34 million in US and Canadian ticket sales, trailing the $42 million estimate of Boxoffice.com. Most analysts attributed the disappointing numbers to a snowstorm in the Northeast and Friday's final World Series game.

By Scott Kirsner, Globe Columnist I've been talking to people this morning about the most likely scenarios for 38 Studios, the Providence-based game development shop that seems to be running out of money after receiving a $75 million loan guarantee from Rhode Island. As of today, the company's CEO and senior VP of product development have updated their LinkedIn profiles to indicate they're no longer with the company. I spoke with game industry executives and venture capitalists who've invested in other developers of massively-multiplayer games.

Which 'bots are in, and which are out? That's the question the special-effects gurus at Universal Studios and Industrial Light and Magic, as well as "Transformers" director Michael Bay, first asked themselves five years ago when they started developing a $100 million theme park attraction based on the popular franchise. Much like the robots themselves, the answer changed shape. "We knew we had to have Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron," said Universal Studios producer Chick Russell.

" And indeed, it is Aaron Sorkin's show from top to bottom, from the self-absorbed but brilliant characters to the Big Themes of censorship and the dumbing-down of America. This drama, which premieres tonight at 10 on Channel 7, could not be the child of anyone but the brainy guy who gave us "The West Wing" and "Sports Night," just as a Woody Allen movie couldn't be the...

From the outside, the legendary Blue Jay Recording Studio, built in 1979, has no more flash than a hobbit hole. Many locals don't even know it exists. But down a driveway, tucked into the side of a hill, there's a subterranean space that over the years has attracted some of the biggest names in music, from Aerosmith to Gaga. But with the music industry going through seismic changes, classic studios like Blue Jay are becoming as rare as a 45 rpm record.
