One game into the season and the Philadelphia Eagles are living up to their Super Bowl aspirations on both sides of the ball. Michael Vick made his first opening day start since 2006 and led a dazzling display on offense, and a defense fortified in free agency made life miserable for Sam Bradford in an impressive 31-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Sure, it wasn't perfect — but plenty of time remains to get things right. "We have a long way to go," Vick said.

We are 11 days away from the 2012 draft. Starting at 8 p.m. on April 26, NFL fans will dream big, looking for immediate starters to plug into the lineup and carry their team to the Super Bowl. The reality is that a huge number of rookies - even those taken in the first round - have a very limited impact in their first seasons. The best you can really hope for is for a rookie to provide some solid depth and deliver when called upon. Teams, at least those that are run smartly, expect draft picks to contribute heavily in their second seasons - after they get a year of...

The St. Louis Rams have ruled out quarterback Sam Bradford for this week's game at Dallas. Bradford has a high left ankle sprain and did not practice all week. He had been listed as questionable before Saturday, when the winless Rams also signed quarterback Tom Brandstater from the practice squad. The Rams also waived wide receiver Nick Miller. Bradford was hurt near the end of last week's loss at Green Bay. A.J. Feeley will start against the Cowboys.

The St. Louis Rams are willing to trade the second overall pick of the April draft. Chief operating officer Kevin Demoff said Tuesday that the team would make a deal under the right circumstances, but has not made any commitments despite a report late Monday that a trade had already been decided. He said new coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead went to the NFL combine with an open mind. "I think coach Fisher and Les have been upfront that we will listen to offers for the (hash)

By design, Josh McDaniels' offense in the St. Louis Rams' preseason opener was not a radical departure from last season. It's no time to be unveiling the playbook. The small portion the Rams used while scoring 33 points in a victory over the Indianapolis Colts was effective enough, even without Steven Jackson. They'll ease the Pro Bowl running back into action in Week 2 of the preseason Saturday night against Tennessee. McDaniels said Tuesday that players have been introduced to most of his system.

Undrafted rookie Doug Baldwin blocked a first-quarter punt that was returned by Michael Robinson 17 yards for a touchdown, then caught a 29-yard TD pass from Tarvaris Jackson in the third quarter as the Seattle Seahawks pulled away for a 30-13 win over the staggering St. Louis Rams on Monday night. Seattle (6-7) won for the fourth time in five games and kept alive its slim hopes for reaching the postseason. Marshawn Lynch topped 100 yards rushing for the fifth time in the last six games, finishing with 115. He scored a touchdown in his ninth straight game on a...

TULSA, Okla. - Allen Patrick ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns, Sam Bradford threw two long touchdown passes to Juaquin Iglesias, and No. 4 Oklahoma outraced Tulsa, 62-21, last night. DeMarco Murray added two touchdown runs and returned a kickoff for another TD. The Sooners (4-0), the highest-scoring team in the nation, have put up at least 50 points in all four games. That's only the second time in school history they've had such a streak - they also did it in 2003, capped by a 65-13 romp over Texas.

Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford will not start for eighth-ranked Oklahoma tomorrow when the Sooners visit No. 17 Miami. Sooners coach Bob Stoops said yesterday that Landry Jones will start for Bradford, who hasn’t played since spraining the AC joint in his throwing shoulder the first week of the season. “Sam has made daily progress, but we don’t feel like he’s quite where he needs to be yet,’’ Stoops said in a statement. “Our team has a lot of confidence in Landry’s ability and we’re looking forward to going into the game with...

LUBBOCK, Texas - OU is out. Graham Harrell and Texas Tech knocked No. 3 Oklahoma out of the national title chase last night with a 34-27 victory. Harrell threw for 420 yards and two touchdowns for the Red Raiders and for the 11th time this season a top-five team lost to an unranked team. Tech fans stormed the field after the win, the second straight in Lubbock for coach Mike Leach over Sooners coach Bob Stoops, his former boss at Oklahoma. With Oregon losing Thursday, the Sooners, who were fourth in the latest BCS standings, appeared to be in good shape to play for a...

Robert Griffin was able to impress teams and scouts without throwing a pass at the NFL combine. There was his official time of 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash, fastest among quarterbacks, and the Heisman Trophy winner believes he ran even faster. And there were interviews with at least eight teams, including the Indianapolis Colts, who have the No. 1 draft pick. "I think I was able to go out there and affirm to the scouts how athletic I am, or impress them even more," Griffin said Monday.

Good thing the San Francisco 49ers opened the playbook in the finale. Record-setting kicker David Akers showed off a strong left arm to match his left leg in a 34-27 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday as Michael Crabtree bamboozled defenders on a perfectly executed trick play for a touchdown. It appeared to be the icing on a dominating performance that wrapped up the No. 2 playoff seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. Instead, it helped build just enough of a cushion against the usually offensive-challenged St. Louis Rams.

Kellen Clemens is still getting to know his teammates. The stand-in quarterback did just about as well as could be expected running the NFL's worst offense. Making his first start in two years, Clemens was 25 of 36 for 229 yards and a late touchdown pass to Danario Alexander in the St. Louis Rams' 20-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Clemens had only seven practices before stepping in for Sam Bradford and A.J. Feeley, both out with injuries. Bradford did not practice all week and missed his fourth start with a high left ankle sprain and...

SEATTLE - Doug Baldwin picked a national stage to remind the rest of the NFL what they passed up in last April's draft. Baldwin, an undrafted rookie out of Stanford, blocked a first-quarter punt that was returned by Michael Robinson 17 yards for a touchdown, then caught a 29-yard TD pass from Tarvaris Jackson in the third quarter as the Seattle Seahawks pulled away for a 30-13 win over the staggering St. Louis Rams last night. Sam Bradford was in street clothes, and A.J. Feeley was off target with his throws. That meant a long day for the St. Louis Rams and their offense. St. Louis struggled to get the ball past midfield and managed only 157 yards of offense while being shut out for the first time in more than two years in a 26-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Just another emotional blow in a season that can't end soon enough for the Rams. "We didn't do a lot of things very well," said Feeley, who committed two turnovers and was sacked four times.

NEW YORK - Tim Tebow will go for two against a pair of quarterbacks from the Big 12 when the Heisman Trophy is awarded Saturday night. Sam Bradford from Oklahoma and Colt McCoy from Texas joined Tebow as Heisman finalists announced yesterday. The last time all the Heisman finalists were quarterbacks was 2001, when Nebraska's Eric Crouch won and QBs held the first six spots. Tebow, the rugged and multitalented junior from Florida, was the first sophomore to win the Heisman last year and is trying to become the second player to win it twice.
