TORONTO -- Sitting behind home plate, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Sal Fasano couldn't help but be amazed. Roy Halladay picked up his 100th career victory -- 19 days after having surgery to remove his appendix -- and out dueled Mark Buehrle in the Blue Jays' 2-0 win over the Chicago White Sox last night. Halladay (5-2) pitched for the first time since May 10, when he gave up seven earned runs over five innings in an 8-0 loss to the Red Sox. He underwent an appendectomy the following day and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

TORONTO - Roy Halladay won't be facing the Tampa Bay Rays again this season, something both sides are perfectly happy about. Halladay pitched seven solid innings to win his fifth straight start, Alex Rios hit two homers, and the Blue Jays beat the Rays, 6-4, last night to extend their season-high winning streak to six. "Doc's had a great year," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "If Doc had more run support [earlier in the season], he'd certainly have over 20 wins right now. " Rios hit a solo homer in the third and a two-run drive in the eighth for his third career multihomer game...

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - No team has beaten Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay four times in one season. Vernon Wells helped make sure the Tampa Bay Rays didn't. Halladay beat Tampa Bay for the first time this season, and Wells homered and had three RBIs as Toronto beat the American League East-leading Rays, 6-2, last night. "It's a team that can get you at any point, so you've got to kind of be on your toes," Halladay said. "You can never get too comfortable. You've got to go out and still be aggressive.

Arencibia was 0 for 6 with three strikeouts before connecting off Jairo Asencio. The marathon eclipsed the previous longest openers - 15 innings between Cleveland and Detroit in 1960 and Philadelphia and Washington in 1926. Luis Perez, Toronto's seventh pitcher, pitched four scoreless innings for the win and Sergio Santos got two outs to end the 5-hour, 14-minute game.

If only Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies had gotten this 1-0 win last October. Halladay was nearly flawless for eight innings Thursday and the Phillies showed off their pitching from the start, opening a new season by edging the Pittsburgh Pirates. Missing injured stars Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, the Phillies scored the lone run they needed on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Ruiz in the seventh. New closer Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his first National League save.

Alex Presley turned the Pittsburgh Pirates' first at-bat of 2012 into a sharp single against Philadelphia ace Roy Halladay. The liner sent a buzz through the largest crowd in PNC Park history. Then Halladay settled down and buzzed through the Pirates. The two-time Cy Young winner allowed two hits over eight innings in a 1-0 victory on Thursday. "Nobody solves Roy Halladay," Presley said. "I don't need to tell anyone how good he is. He pitched a great game. He shut us down after the first inning.

Roy Halladay threw eight strong innings for his first victory in a month and the Philadelphia Phillies held on for an 8-7 win over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night. Halladay (4-3) hadn't won since April 16, a span of five starts, and had lost three straight decisions to match a career high, but held the Cubs to three runs and scattered seven hits. The two-time Cy Young winner has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his nine starts this season. Chicago's Welington Castillo's stroked a two-out, three-run double in the ninth against Phillies LHP Jake Diekman to close the gap to two...

When the Philadelphia Phillies need a fly ball, they hit a grounder. When they need a grounder, they strike out. It's been a rough start for the five-time defending NL East champions. Jordany Valdespin had a pinch-hit three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon in the ninth inning for his first major league hit, leading the New York Mets to a 5-2 victory over the Phillies on Monday night. Before it got to that point, the Phillies blew several chances. They loaded the bases with one out in the seventh and had runners on second and third with one out in the eighth — both times...

Roy Halladay offered regret for his teammates, especially Carlos Ruiz, instead of excuses for himself after his worst outing in five years. Halladay gave up eight runs to blow a six-run lead and Chipper Jones hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning as the Atlanta Braves overcame Ruiz's seven RBIs to outlast the Philadelphia Phillies 15-13 on Wednesday night. Ruiz had three hits, including a three-run homer in the seventh and a three-run double in the eighth. He was the first Phillies hitter to drive in seven runs since Ryan Howard against the Yankees on June...

Luebke (2-1) held the Phillies to two hits in eight innings, struck out five and walked two. The Padres hadn't beaten the Phillies in their downtown ballpark since Aug. 16, 2008. Facing one of the toughest pitchers in the majors, the Philadelphia Phillies busted out of their slump and gave Roy Halladay a month's worth of run support. Halladay threw seven sharp innings and the Phillies rocked Josh Johnson in a 7-1 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday night in Miami's first game without suspended manager Ozzie Guillen. A once-potent offense that's missing Chase Utley and Ryan Howard had scored eight runs total in a 1-3 start. But the Phillies jumped on Johnson, the two-time All-Star with nasty stuff.

Ted Lilly tossed a two-hitter, giving Toronto's struggling starters a big boost and leading the Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night in Minneapolis. Orlando Hudson had three hits, including two of Toronto's six doubles, and Josh Phelps hit a two-run double in the sixth inning. Every Blue Jays starter reached base, and four had at least two hits. But Lilly (1-2) had the best night -- striking out eight, walking two, and beating Brad Radke. The lefthander became the first member of Toronto's rotation other than AL Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay to win this year.

His two defeats to Baltimore were the only losses he suffered in his first 12 starts.
