Greg Monroe had 18 points and seven rebounds, Rodney Stuckey scored 15 points in his return from injury, and Ben Wallace made five key free throws down the stretch as the Detroit Pistons beat the Washington Wizards 99-94 Thursday night. Even with Monroe playing well, Pistons coach Lawrence Frank went with the 37-year-old Wallace down the stretch to help stop John Wall's penetration. The Wizards were missing Nene and Trevor Booker with foot injuries, but rallied from a 20-point deficit to pull within five late in the game.

Final: Pistons 96-81: An embarrassing loss for the Celtics that may prove that it could be time to rebuild this team. Detroit wins despite shooting 37.8 percent from the field. That's because the Celtics committed 24 turnovers and 31 personal fouls. Rajon Rondo got tossed for arguing a non-call and Kevin Garnett missed the game because of a family matter. Fourth quarter, 7:17, Pistons 81-66: The Celtics had their chances for a run but suddenly can't score while the Pistons are just running their offense and drawing fouls.

Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points, his highest total in two months, and the New York Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 89-80, Monday night without injured Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin to increase their lead for the final Eastern Conference playoff berth. Shortly after learning Stoudemire was lost indefinitely with a bulging disk in his back, the Knicks opened a 2 1/2-game lead over the Bucks. Baron Davis scored 13 points in his first start in place of Lin, who has a sore right knee.
