The mother of Julissa Brisman, who was murdered inside her room at the Boston Marriott hotel by the man dubbed the Craigslist killer, is suing the hotel chain, contending that it failed to prevent prostitution at area locations and elsewhere, allowing her daughter to offer sexual services in the room she booked and making her vulnerable to a violent attack. Last April, a Las Vegas prostitute who had flown to Boston was robbed at gunpoint in her Copley Square hotel room. She had placed an ad on Craigslist seeking Boston clients, and a young man had responded. The next evening, a young man arrived at Brisman’s Copley Square hotel room and allegedly shot her to death.

Prosecutors will formally drop their case against a man who committed suicide while awaiting trial on charges of killing a masseuse he met through Craigslist. On the same day, the slain woman will be honored with a remembrance stone in a garden memorializing homicide victims. Because of his death, authorities must drop the charges against Philip Markoff, the former Boston University medical student who was accused of killing Julissa Brisman last year. Prosecutors plan to file the notice today in Suffolk Superior Court.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Craigslist's chief executive demanded an apology from South Carolina's attorney general yesterday, saying the prosecutor's threat to file prostitution charges against the company was unreasonable and unfair. Attorney General Henry McMaster threatened last week to prosecute Craigslist executives for aiding and abetting prostitution if an ad on the website leads to a prostitution case in South Carolina. The prosecutor has said his office is investigating the ads, but so far no charges have been brought.
