OTTAWA - Even before the Bruins' Tyler Seguin became an NHLer, he was Phil Kessel's foil. Yesterday, they were linemates. Seguin centered Kessel and Toronto linemate Joffrey Lupul in the All-Star Game at Scotiabank Place. It was Claude Julien's way of teaming the two instead of putting them at odds. "I thought that this was a great opportunity to put those guys together," said the Boston coach. "Instead of making it a rivalry or who ended up with the best of the trade, they're both great players.

OTTAWA - Phil Kessel probably won't have to wait until the end of the NHL All-Star Game draft to hear his name. The Toronto forward was among the final 36 players added to the event by the league's hockey operations department yesterday, joining teammates Joffrey Lupul and Dion Phaneuf for the Jan. 29 game in Ottawa. Kessel's participation last year in All-Star weekend is best remembered for him becoming the last selection in the inaugural draft - a somewhat embarrassing moment.

Washington was 4 for 6 on the power play against Toronto, after going 3 for 51 in the previous 14 games.

Unable to come to contract terms with Phil Kessel, and confident they can live well and prosper despite the loss of his scoring punch, the Bruins last night shipped the right wing to the Maple Leafs for three draft picks, a pair of first-round choices and a second-round pick. Nearly simultaneously with acquiring Kessel’s rights, the Leafs signed the 21-year-old US Olympic team candidate to a five-year contract worth $27 million, translating to a $5.4 million cap hit for the fleet-footed former first-round pick.
