Hundreds of children got the chance to hear New England Patriots star Patrick Chung read the classic "Corduroy" by Don Freeman at the Read by the River carnival on Sunday at Tufts University. After leading the story time at the event, which is sponsored by Tufts Hillel, Chung signed autographs for his young fans. We hear that he took the book home to read to his son.

INDIANAPOLIS - Patrick Chung missed half of the regular season - one game to thumb surgery in September and seven to a foot injury in the latter half of the season. FOXBOROUGH - Patrick Chung said he never got down on himself or his situation when a foot injury forced him to miss seven of the Patriots' last eight games of the regular season. The safety never questioned if it would derail his season when the days he was inactive turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months. "You can't think like that," Chung said yesterday, happy to be healthy enough to make his first appearance in an AFC Championship game, Sunday against the Ravens at Gillette Stadium.

According to the Globe's Shalise Manza Young, Patrick Chung and Sebastian Vollmer were the only two Patriots not spotted at today's practice. Chung has missed the past five games with a right foot injury, while Vollmer has nursed a back injury for much of the season. The Patriots are outside this afternoon, practicing in sweats, shorts, and shells.

The NFL fined Patriots safety Patrick Chung and Broncos linebacker Von Miller $7,500 each for actions during last week's divisional playoff game at Gillette Stadium. Both were fined for unnecessary roughness. Via a league spokesman, Chung's fine came when "specifically, on a run play he struck an opponent late. " In the third quarter, Chung was flagged on a second-and-4 run by Willis McGahee. For Miller, his penalty came when "specifically, on a special teams play, he struck an opponent late.

By Monique Walker, Globe Staff FOXBOROUGH -- Players are gathering here at Gillette Stadium for the first official day the facilities around the NFL opened after the lockout. While Gillette Stadium could officially open its doors at 10 a.m., there were about 15 players already in the building by that time. However, teams were apparently told they did not have to continue locking players out if they arrived before 10 a.m., so the team did not break any rule by having players inside the facility before the "official" opening time.
