No. 13 Creighton discovered a lesson nearly as old as college hoops itself. When you're playing a league game on the road against a team hitting its shots, you're probably in trouble. Antoine Young and the Bluejays did nearly everything they could to stave off the upset, but Anthony James buried a 3 as time expired as Northern Iowa upset the Bluejays 65-62 on Saturday, snapping their 11-game winning streak. James scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half and Seth Tuttle added 13 points for the Panthers (16-9, 6-7 MVC)

Pat Grace ran for two touchdowns and Terrell McMoore returned an interception 36 yards for what proved to be the decisive TD, giving Northern Iowa a 36-34 victory over New Hampshire last night in a Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinal game in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The third-seeded Panthers (12-2) survived a 100-yard interception runback for a touchdown by New Hampshire's John Clements to move into next weekend's semifinals against Richmond. Robert Simpson's 1-yard TD run drew New Hampshire to within 2 points, but De'Veon Harris's leaping interception stopped the Wildcats on their next possession...

DOWS, Iowa - He has set himself apart from the rest of the Republican field as the candidate who believes the United States should shed its role as the world's policeman and focus instead on its internal economic problems. Representative Ron Paul of Texas says he would cut a trillion dollars out of the federal budget his first year as president, in part by ending all foreign wars and foreign aid, including to Israel. At Creighton, Doug McDermott is no longer overshadowed by another star. Before he showed up in Omaha last year, McDermott was the wingman for superstar Harrison Barnes at Ames High School in Iowa. McDermott is his own man nowadays — and the man to fans of 19th-ranked Creighton. Other than the Chicago Bulls' Kyle Korver, the Bluejays' sharpshooter from 1999-2003, McDermott is the most celebrated Creighton player athletic director Bruce Rasmussen can remember in his 32 years at the 6,000-student Jesuit school.

CANCUN, Mexico -- The sugar-white-sand beaches are back after being swept away by Hurricane Wilma five months ago. But there are no stages for wet T-shirt contests, and MTV won't be hosting its spring break beach party. Instead, the first wave of winter-weary college students who converged on Cancun found that construction workers nearly outnumbered revelers this week in Mexico's spring break capital of beer and bikinis. With nearly half its hotels still closed, Cancun has plunged down the list of destinations for spring breakers from the United States.

Melsahn Basabe needed a game like this. Iowa did, too. Basabe had 14 points and 10 rebounds — more points than the forward had scored in his team's previous four games combined — to help Iowa beat Brown 75-54 on Saturday. Roy Devyn Marble scored 11 points off the bench, and five others scored at least eight points for the Hawkeyes (4-3), who had lost three of their last four games. "He's a good player, and he knows he's struggling," Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said.
