Federal and local authorities have arrested more than 30 people in an investigation of drug crimes and violence in New Haven. Thursday's roundups came after a federal grand jury indicted 61 people in an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and New Haven-area police, which began looking into gangs, heroin and cocaine trafficking and weapons crimes in the Dwight-Chapel and Fair Haven neighborhoods last year. Officials say they found a large presence of Bloods gang members in the Dwight-Chapel neighborhood who were involved in much of the violence there.

New Haven Police say they've arrested the 21-year-old driver of a U-Haul truck that struck and killed a woman in a tailgating area at the Yale-Harvard football game in 2011. Brendan D. Ross of O'Fallon, Mo., turned himself in at the New Haven Police Department Friday evening. The Yale student was charged with misdemeanor negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and reckless driving. A man has been found shot to death on Ella Grasso Boulevard in New Haven Police say they are working to identify the victim, a black man who was found at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. They say he had been shot multiple times, and was dead at the scene. The homicide is the 20th of the year in New Haven.

New Haven police are investigating an early morning shooting that killed a teenager. Authorities say witnesses heard several gunshots on Hotchkiss Street near Chapel Street at about 12:30 a.m. Friday. When police arrived, they found the teenager shot and two bicycles lying in the road. Police haven't released the victim's name. Officers remained at the scene Friday morning collecting evidence and interviewing neighborhood residents. The killing was the second fatal shooting of a teenager in the area in just over a week.

NEW HAVEN - University towns are New England's best defense against late-winter cabin fever. Most colleges have attractions and activities open to folks without student IDs, and the campuses themselves are usually ringed with interesting shops, restaurants, and nightlife options. Moreover, they exude such a youthful, hopeful vibe that it's impossible not to believe that spring is around the corner. New Haven certainly fills the bill. Yale University relocated to the city in 1716, and the Old Campus sits cheek-by-jowl to New Haven Green, the historic core laid out by Puritan settlers.

New Haven Mayor John DeStefano has won an historic 10th term leading the Elm City. The Democrat claimed victory on Tuesday, about an hour after the polls closed, before a crowd of supporters. He was introduced by U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro. DeStefano had faced independent newcomer Jeffrey Kerekes. With his latest victory, DeStefano has become the longest serving mayor in New Haven history.

Yale University officials say they will be moving the School of Nursing out of New Haven to a campus in West Haven and Orange. The school announced Thursday that the move will take place in the summer of next year and involve all the 450 students, administrators and faculty at the current building on Church Street South. Harry Belafonte came to town Wednesday to inspire future philanthropists with a master class on the convergence of social justice and celebrity. It was a multimedia convergence as well, with a digitized class session at Yale University, an advance screening of a new film documentary on Belafonte's career and an old-fashioned public talk at Yale's Whitney Humanities Center. Police are investigating the shooting death of a young man who was found slumped over the wheel of a luxury SUV and bleeding in New Haven. The victim was sitting in the driver's seat and had been shot early Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene at County Street. Police say the man is suspected to be in his late teens or early twenties, but his full identity has not yet been confirmed. Investigators say they are confident he was not randomly targeted, but was rather the intended victim.

Occupy New Haven protesters have told the city they will not leave the New Haven Green as requested by the city. The New Haven Register reports ( http://bit.ly/AcBVkz) that City Hall said earlier this week officials will remove tents and structures by the end of this week. Officials told protesters they may reassemble on the Green for up to one week if structures are removed. Irving Pinsky, the lawyer for the protesters, says it could take years in court proceedings to evict the occupiers who set up camp in October.

Community organizers in East Haven say they expect hundreds of people to turn out for a weekend march calling attention to allegations of police discrimination toward Latinos. Four East Haven police officers were arrested last month by the FBI and accused of singling out illegal immigrants for abuse. Organizer Herman Zuniga says he expects hundreds of people to join the unity march Saturday morning in East Haven and two buses will bring in marchers from across the town line in New Haven.

A New Haven man awaiting trial for allegedly wounding another man in a shooting last year is facing a murder charge for a 2010 killing outside a city bar. Police obtained an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Jermaine Harris on Thursday in connection with the shooting death of 26-year-old Edmund Jackson outside Humphrey's Bar, which has since closed. Harris faces murder and weapons charges. Harris is detained on $1 million bail in the September wounding of 26-year-old Marvin Jones, who was shot multiple times.

Federal and local agents are rounding up people suspected of involvement in trafficking illegal firearms in New Haven. Agents began serving warrants for 24 people wanted on weapons and drug charges, including some with multiple warrants. Ten of the suspects were arrested by midafternoon Wednesday and 15 guns were seized. Acting New Haven Police Chief John Velleca says the city is seeing an alarming rate of gun violence and the raids are among several initiatives to stop the flow of illegal guns.

A New Haven property developer charged in a series of arsons has been arrested on more allegations in connection with a house explosion and a vehicle fire in the Elm City. State authorities charged 46-year-old Angelo Reyes with several crimes Thursday and detained him on $1.5 million bail. He's to be arraigned Friday in New Haven Superior Court. The new charges are related to a 2008 explosion that destroyed a Downing Street home near a laundromat Reyes owned and a 2009 vehicle fire on Quinnipiac Avenue.
