What does National Geographic consider the best island in the world? Tahiti? Capri, Italy? Lord Howe Island, Australia? Nope. According to its recent book, "The 10 Best of Everything," it's actually Nantucket, which takes the coveted spot in the ten best islands category. Nantucket? No disrespect to the Massachusetts hotspot, but it seems a bit of an odd choice on a list that doesn't even include Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, or the Bahamas. By Paul E. Kandarian, Globe Correspondent A variety of unusual and familiar events await wine and food lovers at the 16th annual Nantucket Wine Festival May 16-20. For example, one event, "The Greatest Chef You Never Heard Of," Damon Baehrel, of Basement Bistro in Earlton, N.Y., which has a two-year waiting list to get in, has been hailed by Thomas Keller of French Laundry fame as one of America's greatest culinary talents. Baehrel's cuisine will be featured at the event, at a location to be announced and, of course, paired with wine.

Environmental officials are considering a proposal to designate the coastal waters of Nantucket and Vineyard Sounds and the islands as an area where discharges of treated and untreated boat sewage would be prohibited. WEST BARNSTABLE - Law enforcement officials combed through a wooded area off Route 6 for much of the day yesterday in search for evidence related to the suspicious disappearance last month of Trudie Hall, a Nantucket woman who was expecting her first child. A team of State Police, Barnstable police, and officials from the Barnstable County sheriff's office headed into the area off Service Road with dogs, all-terrain vehicles, and mountain bicycles. A State Police helicopter flew overhead several times.

BARNSTABLE - The discovery of Trudie Hall's remains has provided authorities with new evidence in their two-year quest to find her killer.
