Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington spent yesterday afternoon on opposite sides of Riviera as they played vastly different styles. All they had in common when the second round ended was a share of the lead at the Nissan Open in Los Angeles. Mickelson made only one bogey and got hot with his irons on the back nine with back-to-back birdies inside 5 feet and a 3-wood from 287 yards that set up an eagle on the 17th hole, sending him to a 6-under-par 65 and a chance to win for the second straight week.

Azahara Munoz is never going to forget her first LPGA Tour win. It was as emotional as it was controversial and possibly tainted. Munoz beat Candie Kung 2 and 1 on Sunday to win the Sybase Match Play Championship, a title that was set up when Morgan Pressel was penalized for slow play while in control of their semifinal match. Pressel was one of the first to hug and congratulate Munoz, her good friend, but she also had to be feeling this could have been her first win since 2008 just as easily.

Sarah Lee shook off some nerves and avoided the mistakes that plagued most everyone else yesterday, shooting a bogey-free, 3-under-par 68 to take a two-shot lead over Becky Morgan halfway through the Michelob Ultra Open in Williamsburg, Va. Morgan had just one blip on her card -- a bogey from a bunker on the par-4 14th -- but followed that with four birdies in five holes. Her 65 left her at 9-under 133, two better than Amy Hung, who had a 68 after making bogeys on two of her first three holes.

In his first tournament at No. 1 in the world and having played only one event in three months, Lee Westwood was not sure what to expect out of his game at the HSBC Champions at Shanghai. Being one shot behind Francesco Molinari going into the weekend was a pleasant surprise. Molinari built a big lead early before stumbling to a couple of bogeys yesterday, then held on for a 2-under 70 that gave him a one-shot lead over Westwood after two rounds of this World Golf Championship.

Garrigus, 32, surged to the top of the leaderboard with four birdies and an eagle against two bogeys to reach 11-under 199. It’s the first time he has led a PGA Tour event by himself. Tiger Woods went from a breeze to a wheeze in the Match Play Championship, not taking the lead until the 10th hole and having to make a 7-foot birdie on the 18th to get past Robert Allenby yesterday at Carlsbad, Calif. "I'm advancing," Woods said. "That's a good thing. " Ultimately, that's all that mattered in a second round filled with dramatic shots, stirring comebacks, and some familiar faces who are pressing on toward the $1.3 million prize that awaits the winner. Vijay Singh overcame a slow start to beat Miguel Angel Jimenez, and while it's hard to call that a...

Morgan Pressel inched closer to her first LPGA Tour title since 2008, posting two very different victories Saturday to reach the semifinals of the Sybase Match Play Championship. Pressel rallied from 2-down with three holes to play to stun No. 2 ranked Na Yeon Choi in 19 holes in the morning and rolled over Anna Nordqvist of Sweden 5 and 4 in the afternoon quarterfinal in the surprised-filled event at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club. The top-ranked Tseng, the LPGA Championship and Women's British Open winner, leads the tour with four victories this season and has seven overall wins this year. "I think it's hard to not have pressure because, I mean, for sure I've got pressure tomorrow, defending champion and in the lead," Tseng said. Yani Tseng wasn’t satisfied with merely winning the LPGA Championship and, at 22, becoming the youngest to win four LPGA majors. Once she made the turn with a 10-stroke lead Sunday, the best female player in the world set her sights on making a little more history. “I was like, what’s a new goal for me?’’ Tseng said. “And that’s why I told myself I wanted to set a record, to make 20 under.’’ She missed by one stroke in what was the only minor blemish in one of the most dominating performances to date from Tseng.

The first of Morgan Pressel's many challenges yesterday came on the opening hole, when she knocked a birdie putt 6 feet past the cup. But she recovered nicely -- a theme for her opening round at the ADT Championship in West Palm Beach, Fla. Pressel made that par-saving comebacker and many others like it, putting herself in solid position after one round of the LPGA's season-ending event. Pressel shot a 1-under-par 71 at Trump International, finishing three shots behind opening-round leader Ai Miyazato.
