MONTREAL -- Ken Mosdell, who won three Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens, has died at 83. Mr. Mosdell died Thursday morning at a Montreal hospital, the team said in a statement. He played 14 of his 16 NHL seasons with the Canadiens. Born in Montreal, Mr. Mosdell started his NHL career with the Brooklyn Americans in 1941-42 and also played for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1956-57.

By Tony Massarotti, Boston.com Columnist The seventh game belonged to the Bruins a year ago, from the first round to the last, en route to their first Stanley Cup in 39 years. The Bruins played three Game 7s last spring. They won them all. They never so much as trailed in any of them. And so tonight at the TD Garden, the Bruins return to that place where entire seasons teeter and where they have most recently done their very best work. The edge. We all know how Game 7s work, of course, and we all know what they mean.

MONTREAL -- Gerry McNeil, who won two Stanley Cups as a goaltender with the Montreal Canadiens, died Thursday. He was 78. The Canadiens announced his death in a statement yesterday, but the team did not release a cause of death. Mr. McNeil won his first Stanley Cup in the 1952-53 season and was part of the 1956-57 team that won the second of five straight National Hockey League titles. He also played in three All-Star games in the early part of the decade.

MONTREAL - Emile "Butch" Bouchard, a longtime Montreal Canadiens captain and four-time Stanley Cup winner, has died Saturday. He was 92. His death was confirmed by his son, Pierre, and his friend and sports analyst Ron Fournier. Fournier said Mr. Bouchard was surrounded by his family when he died. Mr. Bouchard scored 49 goals in 785 games during his 15-year NHL career. The defenseman captained the Canadiens for eight years before retiring after the 1955-56 season. The Canadiens won the Stanley Cup four times while he was with the team, twice while he was captain.

MONTREAL - Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Ken Reardon has died following a lengthy illness, the Montreal Canadiens said Saturday. He was 86. Noted for his rugged play, Mr. Reardon was a two-time NHL first team All-Star during his seven-year career, which included a pair of Stanley Cup championships. He also earned three second-team All-Star selections. He retired in 1950 but later served as vice president of the Canadiens. Mr. Reardon was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966.

Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price has a mild concussion and will miss the rest of the season. The team made the announcement Wednesday after the 24-year-old All-Star was examined by the club's doctor. Price has been suffering from headaches since teammate David Desharnais landed on him during a 2-on-1 drill in practice late last week. He played the following night in a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers. Backup goalie Peter Budaj will face Tampa Bay on Wednesday night.

Daniel Alfredsson scored on Ottawa's third shootout attempt and the Senators extended their winning streak to four with a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Craig Anderson, who got his first shutout of the season Thursday night at the New York Rangers, was perfect after making 33 saves in regulation and overtime. Kyle Turris and Jason Spezza scored in the third to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead. Max Pacioretty scored with 38.9 seconds to tie it at 2 with Carey Price pulled for an extra attacker.

Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season and Alexander Semin scored on the second of Washington's two penalty shots in the Capitals' 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Alex Ovechkin returned to the Capitals' lineup after serving a three-game suspension for his hit on Pittsburgh's Zbynek Michalek. Dennis Wideman and Matt Hendricks also scored for Washington, which won for just the second time in its last six (2-2-2). Vokoun recorded his 47th NHL shutout, his first in 21 games against Montreal.

Max Pacioretty scored his 19th goal in the first and Alexei Emelin made it 2-0 with a short-handed goal 7:20 into the second. Plekanec, who set up Emelin's goal, was credited with his 11th goal on a power play at 11:28. Cody Hodgson scored twice and Jason Pominville once to help the Sabres improve to 11-2-4 in their past 17 games and catch the eighth-place Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference standings. Miller improved to 11-1-3 in his past 15 games, a stretch in which he's allowed only 29 goals. The shutout was the 28th of Miller's career, and fifth in his past 23 games.

The Washington Capitals welcomed back Nicklas Backstrom and took a big step toward the playoffs Saturday night, blowing a two-goal lead for the second game in a row before taking the shootout for a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. The result, coupled with Toronto's 4-3 win over Buffalo, moved the Capitals two points clear of the Sabres with three games to play. Washington also moved within two points of Southeast Division leader Florida. Matt Hendricks and Alexander Semin scored in the shootout for the Capitals.

Wojtek Wolski scored in regulation and added the only goal of the shootout to help the Florida Panthers boost their playoff hopes with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. Mikael Samuelsson also scored in regulation for Florida, which outshot Montreal 36-29. The Panthers ended a three-game winless streak and completed a four-game sweep of the season series with Montreal. The win, combined with Washington's 5-1 loss at Buffalo, gave the Panthers a five-point lead over the Capitals for first place in the Southeast Division, with a game in hand.

Filip Kuba scored 3:07 into overtime Friday night as the Ottawa Senators moved into first place in the Northeast Division with a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. After taking a pass from Daniel Alfredsson, Kuba beat Carey Price with a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle. Erik Karlsson assisted on Kuba's winner, giving him four points in his last three games and 71 points in 71 games on the season.
