Michael Vick was in the Philadelphia Eagles' starting lineup after missing a portion of last week's loss to the Giants with a bruised right hand. Vick originally was thought to have a broken hand, but the left-handed passer later was diagnosed with the bruise, and he practiced late in the week. He wore a padded glove on his right hand for the game. During warmups, he greeted several 49ers players with a hand slap — using his right hand. San Francisco running back Frank Gore is active despite a sprained right ankle, but rookie Kendall Hunter will start.

Young rolled out on a fourth-down play and was about to run for the first down when his right leg stuck in the turf. He wound up throwing an incomplete pass as he went down, then immediately limped to the sideline. Eagles trainers looked at the back of his right knee and Young gimped along the sideline before heading to the locker room with 18 seconds remaining in the half.

SEATTLE - Marshawn Lynch loves the prime-time stage, even if he's rarely given such a spotlight. Seattle's hard-charging running back bulled through Philadelphia for 148 yards and a pair of first-half touchdowns, David Hawthorne returned the third of Vince Young's four interceptions 77 yards for a score, and the Seahawks rolled to a 31-14 victory last night that only added to the Eagles' miserable season. Lynch ran into and escaped from a massive pileup for a 15-yard TD run in the first quarter, then made a quick cut and went back against the flow for a 40-yard scoring dash on the first play of the...

By Tony Massarotti, Globe Columnist With all due respect to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady and the laudable Patriots Way, some of us simply cannot buy in yet. Not now. Not after yesterday. Not as the Patriots have resumed their march through the regular season against a collection of tackling dummies and blocking sleds, the latest coming in the form of a Philadelphia Eagles outfit that is the NFL equivalent of the 2011 Red Sox. All of that talent. So little heart. And positively no clue.

"Fly, Eagles, Fly!" That's the team song of the local NFL entry, and those in attendance at Lincoln Financial Field today may be hearing it a few times during what promises to be a long, stressful afternoon for the New England Patriots. Am I predicting outright defeat for the lads from Foxborough? I won't go that far. But I will say that if Bill's Boys plan on having a happy flight home, they had better plan on bringing their proverbial A game, and nothing less. May we now take a seat, inhale and exhale fully, and offer an honest appraisal of the 2011...

"As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football," said R.L. White , president of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter, yesterday. "We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country.
