We need a 24/7 city By J. Alain Ferry START-UP ENTREPRENEURS don't work from 9 to 5. We don't drive to the office. We don't cook dinner. And we don't make tons of money. We sell our cars, operate out of our apartments, and hold meetings in coffee shops. Even when we start in Boston and want to stay in Boston, Silicon Valley lures us away with its friendly investors and sunny weather, or New York calls to us with its non-stop action and center-of-the-universe vibe.

The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum erred in refusing the media access to the individual questioning of potential jurors. "We do not see anything in the district court's findings, other than perhaps the degree of media coverage, that differentiates this case from any other high-profile prosecution," the appeals court wrote.

PORTLAND, Maine - Prosecutors may introduce evidence about a Massachusetts man's alcohol consumption before a boat collision that killed two people on Long Lake, a judge ruled. Prosecutors say Robert LaPointe's blood alcohol content was 0.11 percent three hours after the crash last summer in Harrison. Maine's alcohol limit for driving is 0.08 percent. But lawyers for LaPointe contend that the evidence was unreliable because the blood sample wasn't refrigerated and wasn't delivered to a lab until 34 hours after the crash.

How would The Thumper fare in this era of talk radio, Internet chat rooms, and Twitter? The mind truly boggles. And yet when something like this mild flap stemming from the Kevin Youkilis comments to my colleague Dan Shaughnessy occurs, I like to turn it around. I wonder how some of today’s athletes would have coped in a Boston where there were seven daily newspapers and some...
