There's a beautiful moment in the documentary "Undefeated," about Tennessee's Manassas High School football team, in which a player named Chavis Daniels demonstrates how much he's changed. Chavis, who's been nothing but trouble to his teammates and coaches, returns from a suspension and turns in a game-winning performance. A few days later in the locker room in front of the entire team, the head coach, Bill Courtney, names Chavis his "uncommon man," a regular honor whose prize appears to be a copy of the bestseller "Uncommon" by the former Colts coach and NBC commentator, Tony Dungy.

NORTH ANDOVER - Tom Walsh sat calmly in the fourth row at Lawler Arena on Monday night, watching his grandson, D.J. Walsh, and the rest of the Needham High hockey players scatter into the locker room after a disappointing opening period. The Rockets trailed St. John's High, 4-0, in the first Super 8 play-in game of the evening, a matchup that Needham needed to win to extinguish any doubt over its inclusion in the state's elite hockey tournament (the Rockets have gone 1-7-1 in Super 8 play since 2009)

A bullet found in the boys' locker room prompted a lockdown at a New Hampshire high school. School officials said after a 90-minute search at Newmarket Junior/Senior High School on Thursday, the bullet was discovered to have belonged to a student who had gone shooting with his parents the night before. CAIRO (AP) — Soccer fans rushed the field after the home team won an unexpected victory over Egypt's top squad Wednesday, setting off clashes and a stampede that left at least 73 people dead and 1,000 injured in a Mediterranean port city, officials said. It was the worst incident of soccer violence in Egypt and the deadliest worldwide since 1996. The melee broke out after fans of Al-Masry, the home team in Port Said, stormed the field after a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly, Egypt's top team.

Patriots players received a little gift yesterday. The team, which leaves for Indy this weekend, returned to their lockers to discover boxes of Uggs for every player. Although QB Tom Brady has a contract with UGG Australia to endorse the company's casual footwear, outerwear, and accessories, it's not clear who put the boots - dark brown Stonemans, retail $220 - in the locker room. There was a card in each box: "Congratulations for making it to Super Bowl XLVI, the Uggs team. "

Police have accused three Woonsocket High School hockey players of stealing money and an iPhone from the locker room of the Mount St. Charles Academy arena during games this month. Lt. Eugene Jalette (Jih-LET') said Monday a 15-year-old boy who attends Woonsocket High was charged Dec. 10 with possession of stolen property after police found him with the phone.
