She's married into the royal family, and now the former Kate Middleton is moving to take on her new role by choosing the charities she will support. St. James's Palace said Thursday that the Duchess of Cambridge has accepted honorary positions with charities that deal with a range of issues, including tackling drug addiction and helping young people. The royal, who married Prince William last year, has become a patron of Action on Addiction and the National Portrait Gallery.

Prince William insists he and his wife Catherine aren't preparing for life as parents just yet, after she was caught doting on a newborn boy at a charity event. The Duchess of Cambridge, previously known as Kate Middleton, met three-week-old Hugo Eric Scott Vicary on Thursday at an event to mark the achievement of a group of polar trekkers. Vic Vicary, the boy's father and one of the trekkers, said Kate had "said the baby was very cute, and had doting eyes on him. " Though William later cradled the infant, he dismissed jokes from onlookers that he and his wife were in...

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge - or as we formerly knew her, Kate Middleton - was spotted playing field hockey with the Great Britain Hockey Team at Riverside Arena in London's Olympic Park last week. While we're rarely disappointed in the Duchess's fashion choices, we were excited (and a little surprised) that she opted for a pair of faded red skinny jeans to play a game of pickup. Very casual. And very on trend. Fashionable types are well aware that colored denim is the must-have wardrobe staple of the season, with every hue from marigold to chartreuse to lavender in stores.

Hair has struck again. Superficial, to be sure, it somehow manages to work its way into almost every campaign, and this season is no different. Even this early in the 2012 presidential race, a hair-related scandal has erupted (and Donald Trump’s not even running). In case you’re just joining the situation: Most of Newt Gingrich’s top staffers resigned this month, in part, NBC reported, because his wife, Callista, allegedly refused early-morning campaign flights because she needed time to get her platinum hair done.

Movies carry ratings to warn viewers what they're in for. Why not jeans? Specifically, the brightly colored denim that the fashion world has unleashed on us this spring, stacks of which are now threatening shoppers city wide. I recently tried on a pair of red 7 For All Mankind "skinny" jeans (as if) that should have carried an R rating. For "really?" Can a woman who needs a jean whisperer just to try on a pair of dark blue jeans honestly be expected to purchase a pair of skin-tight pants in bright yellow?

Britain’s royal family is doing better on the fashion front than in their sporting endeavors. Buoyed by an appearance by Prince William and Kate Middleton — the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — and Prince Harry the royals made dashing appearances at the Epsom Derby horse race. But Queen Elizabeth II’s fond hope of finally winning the classic race were dashed again Saturday when her horse Carlton House came third. A horse partly owned by Middleton’s parents finished farther off the pace.

Just-married Prince William is celebrating his 29th birthday at work. The prince, a helicopter search and rescue pilot in the Royal Air Force, will be on duty at a base on an island off the coast of Wales and is expected to mark his birthday privately. The prospect of a low-key birthday on Tuesday might appeal to the prince following his blow-out April 29 wedding to Kate Middleton. He is also due to travel to Canada and the United States next month on his first official overseas trip as a married man. William’s grandfather, Prince Philip, recently celebrated his 90th birthday...

Queen Elizabeth II has appointed the Duchess of Cornwall to the highest female rank in the Royal Victorian Order, Buckingham Palace said Monday. The announcement that Camilla has been made a Dame Grand Cross comes on the day of her seventh wedding anniversary with Prince Charles, the queen's son. Awards under the Royal Victorian Order, which was founded in 1896 by Queen Victoria, are given by the queen to people who have served her or the monarchy in a personal way. They are bestowed independently of the prime minister's office.

Fake versions of Britain's young royals have prompted a real-life media scrum when they were unveiled at Madame Tussauds. Photographers and TV crews jostled for position Wednesday as the museum unveiled waxwork figures of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. The couple had the same pose they had during their engagement announcement, with the former Kate Middleton smiling in her now-famous blue Issa dress. Madame Tussauds' Liz Edwards predicts that the pair would become the attraction's most popular figures.

Jorgen Brink of Sweden set a course record in winning the 56-mile Vasaloppet cross-country ski marathon for the third straight year Sunday. The sister of the Duchess of Cambridge — the former Kate Middleton — finished the Vasaloppet ski race in 7 hours, 13:36 minutes, alongside 15,800 competitors in bright sunshine. Middleton told Swedish broadcaster SVT she had only prepared for the race for "a couple of weekends" and admitted it was tiring. Pippa and her brother James, who clocked 06:47:27, raced to raise money for children's charity Magic Breakfast.

The Duchess of Cambridge is carrying out a solo visit to the English port city of Liverpool to visit a charity devoted to helping recovering addicts. Her husband Prince William is currently deployed as a helicopter search-and-rescue pilot in the remote Falkland Islands. But just because Kate was short a prince doesn't mean she was short a valentine.
