Andy Pettitte gave the New York Yankees a Turn Back the Clock night. "I felt like I could do this, and now it's just like I feel like the mind's getting back there," a beaming Pettitte said after his 241st win. "I'm just hoping and praying the body holds up. Jay Bruce homered for the third consecutive game and drove in four runs to back Johnny Cueto's solid effort as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Houston Astros, 6-0 on Saturday. Bruce had a two-run double and Brandon Phillips added two hits for the Reds, who had lost two straight after winning the first two games of a 10-day, nine-game homestand. Cueto (3-0) wasn't dominant, allowing five hits and a walk while hitting a batter and striking out just three over seven innings, but he was able to make enough quality pitches to keep in check an Astros team that...

Scott Rolen's shoulder looked just fine. Mike Leake appeared to be a little rusty. Rolen went 2 for 2 in his return from shoulder surgery that caused him to miss the final two months of last season, and the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians played a 6-6, nine-inning tie Saturday in their spring training opener. Rolen is a seven-time All-Star, including 2010 and 2011. But the 36-year-old didn't play after July 20 last year and had arthroscopic surgery Aug. 3 to remove bone spurs and fragments from a joint in his left shoulder.

Roger Bernadina and Danny Espinosa each hit a two-run homer Friday night in one of Washington's biggest scoring splurges of the season, leading the light-hitting Nationals to a 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Washington matched its season high for runs by taking advantage of Mike Leake (0-5), who lasted three innings and remained winless in six starts. He gave up seven hits and six runs, including the homers by Bernadina and Espinosa. It's the second time Leake has failed to last four innings this season.

The right-hander continued his mastery of the Pirates on Friday night, allowing one run and seven hits in his first complete game of the season as the Reds pulled away for a 6-1 victory. "Since he's implemented this new little tuck … we haven't had much of anything against him here in a while," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said.

Jay Bruce, the National League's player of the week, had to sit and watch for another day — this time, because of raindrops. His manager hopes he doesn't cool off. The opener of a series between the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds was postponed on Tuesday because several lines of thunderstorms moved through the area. The game wasn't immediately rescheduled. It meant that Bruce, who is one homer shy of matching a Reds record, had to limit himself to batting practice instead of trying to hit one out for the fifth game in a row — something he wouldn't mind taking a swing...

A rainout provided some valuable rest for the Chicago Cubs' bullpen. The opener of a series between the Cubs and Cincinnati Reds was postponed on Tuesday because several lines of thunderstorms moved through the area. The game wasn't immediately rescheduled. The rainout was more beneficial to the Cubs, who arrived in town early Tuesday after a 6-4 loss in Philadelphia. The unexpected day off gave their bullpen a chance to regroup and get a little healthier. Manager Dale Sveum said after the postponement that reliever Scott Maine became sick again and wouldn't have been available to pitch.
