BALTIMORE - You're not supposed to cry over injuries. But cry, Boston, cry. Once Cody Ross officially goes on the disabled list Tuesday with a fractured left foot, there will be six Red Sox outfielders on the shelf. There seems no end in sight to this rash of injuries. Sox players have spent 438 games on the disabled list, the most in baseball. Carl Crawford (wrist, elbow), Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder), Darnell McDonald (oblique), Jason Repko (shoulder), Ryan Kalish (shoulder)

BALTIMORE - Cody Ross walked out of Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia Sunday hopeful of playing against the Orioles Monday night. Now he might not be playing until July. Ross was diverted to Boston for an MRI on his injured left foot and it revealed a small, non-displaced fracture of the navicular bone. The general timetable for such injuries is 6-8 weeks and he was placed in a large walking boot to take weight off his foot. Ross will not be placed on the disabled list until Tuesday.

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff Our question of the week comes from Jonathan Lobel, who lives in Frydlant in the Czech Republic. Jonathan asks, "Adrian Gonzalez says he will play wherever the team needs him. Why not put him in the outfield, (Kevin) Youkilis at first base and keep Will Middlebrooks at third base? Seems like these guys are paid enough (and had been playing poorly enough)

By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff PHILADELPHIA — A few notes from Citizens Bank Park on a beautiful Sunday morning: ߦ The Red Sox, who are a little short in the outfield, optioned 1B Mauro Gomez and called up Che-Hsaun Lin from Pawtucket. ߦ Cody Ross (left foot) was walking around much better than he was on Saturday and said he feels much better, too. He's hopeful of getting back in the lineup on Monday. His plan is to "treat the crap out of it" during the game. ߦ Ryan Sweeney is questionable with whiplash, the result of that spectacular diving catch on...

TAMPA, Fla. — Some random thoughts on the Red Sox written while dodging raindrops in the Sunshine State: • In Philadelphia, it has been speculated that the Red Sox should swap Kevin Youkilis for Joe Blanton. It was suggested here over the winter several times that trading Youkilis for pitching made sense. But the Sox need to get more than Blanton, who would get diced up in the AL East. Better to get a few prospects and build for the future than a 31-year-old who isn't going to make a difference.
