The Providence School Board has appointed a new executive director of human resources and labor relations. Craig Bickley will oversee about 24 staffers who serve more than 3,200 people working for the Providence Public School District. Bickley has more than 20 years of experience in human resources. He directed human resources departments for school systems in Sandusky and Columbus, Ohio. The school system says Bickley holds a graduate degree in industrial relations and an undergraduate degree in human resources.

Julie Celanocq has been named vice president of Human Resources at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Faulkner Hospital. She replaces Lisa Ponton, who left the post in December 2010, and the most recent interim, Arthur Mombourquettecq. Celano will oversee the needs of the hospitals' 16,663 combined employees. A woman who was caught up in a cheating scandal in the Atlanta school system has been dismissed from a consulting job in Bridgeport. Bridgeport Schools Superintendent Paul Vallas tells the Connecticut Post that he made the decision because he does not want any controversy. Millicent Few was the human resources director for the Atlanta system before resigning in July amid a standardized-test cheating scandal that reportedly involved 178 teachers. One of the most important responsibilities assigned to school committees in Massachusetts is the hiring of a superintendent. When Superintendent Joseph Casey announced his retirement in October 2011, the Melrose School Committee began a process to find and hire an individual who is a superb fit for our community and who will bring our students to the next level of academic achievement. According to the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, about 40 districts in our state are looking for superintendents this year.
