DETROIT — Ballpoint pen-chewers, take note: The cap in your mouth can obstruct breathing if swallowed. Common sense? Apparently for speakers of French, Spanish, and German. The warning appears only in the English section of the multilingual instructions from the pen manufacturer, according to the creator of the Wacky Warning Labels contest. The pen-cap caveat is among five finalists announced yesterday in the 14th annual contest that calls out silly warning labels and rails against lawsuits it deems frivolous.

"Rock Star: INXS" is "American Idol" with leather pants and a hot tub. It's yet another TV talent contest where we sit in judgment of nervous young performers. And it's also a roommate reality show set in a mansion that puts the "Real World" spreads to shame. In the course of the CBS series, which premieres tonight at 9 on Channel 4, our 15 reelin' and rockin' wannabes will probably do a lot of sweating, both onstage and in bubbling hot water. Now that ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" is over, CBS is hoping this series will become the new reality addiction.

This is the story of a Boston icon, the Mugar Omni Theater. This is also the story of a family, the Rivers clan of Sharon. Both just turned 25. And both began, you might say, when a woman named Mary Jane Dodge stepped into a hot tub in Florida in the mid-1980s. Dodge was one of the early pioneers of a new type of large-format film called IMAX, and she was in Florida to watch the filming of a space shuttle launch. That night, she went for a dip in the hotel hot tub and found a surprise hidden among the bubbles.

NORTH ADAMS -- We traveled to The Porches Inn with every intention of dropping our bags and running off to look at art. After all, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art is directly across the street and the museums in Williamstown but a skip and short drive away. Instead, our lofty cultural intentions were sidetracked by the amenities at the inn. "Which water activity should we try first?" we wondered. Outside, there was the heated pool with adjacent bubbling hot tub, and in our bathroom, a beckoning claw-foot tub and a monster-sized, glass-enclosed, walk-in shower...
