Mitt Romney is on a charm offensive. He took reporters' questions after a campaign rally Thursday instead of keeping them at bay. He brought them warm chocolate chip cookies for the flight from Jacksonville to Palm Beach, Fla. After he got off the plane, he walked over to show reporters a picture of his 5-year-old grandson, Parker. It was "wild hair day" at school and the grandfather of 18 had to share what had just come into his iPad. "You know how he did that? With Elmer's Glue and egg whites.

LONDON - European researchers are planning to use new techniques to analyze DNA that could help crack the mystery of whether Bigfoot exists. Oxford University and Lausanne Museum of Zoology scientists appealed to museums, scientists, and Yeti aficionados this week to share hair samples thought to be from the mythical ape-like creature. New genetic tests will be done on just a few strands of hair and should be completed within weeks. Even if the sample is judged to come from an unknown species, scientists should be able to tell how closely it is related to other species, including apes or...

With his carefully tended hair, tight trousers and perfect harmonies, Robin Gibb, along with his brothers Maurice and Barry, defined the disco era. As part of the Bee Gees — short for the Brothers Gibb — they created dance floor classics like "Stayin Alive," ''Jive Talkin'," and "Night Fever" that can still get crowds onto a dance floor. The catchy songs, with their falsetto vocals and relentless beat, are familiar pop culture mainstays. There are more than 6,000 cover versions of the Bee Gees hits, and they are still heard on dance floors and at wedding receptions, birthday...

Remember about a year ago, when I answered a question (the second one) from a 50-year-old woman whose aunt would pull and attempt to cut her hair? Look who I heard from: I just wanted to send you an update. After seeing your column she made a promise that she would stop pulling my hair. And she has. It as been a full year, and when I bring my Mother down to visit her sister and her mother I can actually sit and visit with her. It helped that I brought my dog Byron down one day when I was dropping my Mom of and everyone fell in love with him. Most importantly, I wanted to tell you that last Sunday when I...

We asked the stylists at Mario Russo (9 Newbury St., 617-424-6676) to create super simple, fashion-forward hairstyles for the upcoming prom/wedding/graduation season. Stylist Elle Proulx created this look on model Mallory Dion, a glamorous (but practical) half-up, half-down do that would work on a variety of hair types and lengths and could be a humid weather hero for ladies with bangs. We deem this look: The New Romantic . 1. Make a dramatic side part on the far left side.

No. "You can do anything you want to a mole, pretty much," said Dr. Bernard Cohen, interim chair of dermatology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. "If you want to pluck, shave, wax, or use electrolysis on a mole, there's no evidence that this will cause a melanoma, or any other kind of skin cancer. " The only caution about moles, he added, is that it's a good idea to keep them out of the sun, which means being sure to put sunscreens on moles as well as the rest of your skin.

Hair has struck again. Superficial, to be sure, it somehow manages to work its way into almost every campaign, and this season is no different. Even this early in the 2012 presidential race, a hair-related scandal has erupted (and Donald Trump’s not even running). In case you’re just joining the situation: Most of Newt Gingrich’s top staffers resigned this month, in part, NBC reported, because his wife, Callista, allegedly refused early-morning campaign flights because she needed time to get her platinum hair done.

CONCORD, N.H. -- You just never know what you'll find in the historical archives. An author researching the life of President Franklin Pierce came across an odd piece of correspondence sent to Pierce's wife, Jane: a letter containing a lock of hair from a friend who had just died. The friend was Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, widow of Alexander Hamilton. She had outlived her husband -- who was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr in 1804 -- by some 50 years and spent her later life in Washington, preserving his memory.

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — Barber Mike Aldrich says he was trying to avoid embarrassment and giving a bad haircut when he balked at trimming the hair of Dr. Darryl Fisher. Aldrich says he is just no good at cutting the hair of black people. Fisher, who is black, says there was something race-related about the way Aldrich, who is white, turned him away when he ducked into Mike’s Barber Shop asking for a trim one day last month. What happened next triggered hard feelings on both sides, a demonstration by local residents unhappy with the barber and a new example of an old problem: white...

1. Plenty of stylists will say the same thing: Stop washing your hair every day in winter. Rather, aim for every third day (every other at most), and condition every time. 2. Don't rub wet hair, says Helena Cohen, owner of Ardan MedSpa + Salon in Wellesley. Instead, wrap it in a towel to absorb the water, and "wait until it's at least half dry before using heat. " But first, comb a thermal protector evenly through the hair, preferably with a wooden comb, as it's gentler than plastic.

A mysterious benefactor in Paris is spreading love, cash and hair appliances along a rugged stretch of New Zealand. Police are baffled by at least four packages that have been sent from different Paris addresses to residents of the South Island's sparsely populated West Coast. They contain either a hair dryer or hair clippers plus a sum of money — either one hundred New Zealand dollars ($78) or one hundred euros ($128). Two of the packages came with identical handwritten notes: "Thanks for being a true friend.

LOS ANGELES - Vidal Sassoon used his hairstyling shears to free women from beehives and hot rollers and to give them wash-and-wear cuts that made him an international name in hair care. When he came on the scene in the 1950s, hair was high and heavy, typically curled, teased, piled and shellacked into place. Then came the 1960s, and Mr. Sassoon's creative cuts, which required little styling and fell into place perfectly every time, fit right in with the fledgling women's liberation movement.

Before you scoff at Tom Brady's new asymmetrical fauxhawk, think of the hours of work that the New England Patriots quarterback put into the look he debuted on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala Monday night. The new 'do caused such a stir that it was reported on internationally. No less a fashion authority than TMZ quickly dubbed it the "pompa-hawk" (half pompadour, half fauxhawk). To explain Brady's unique new nest of hair, we offer a purely hypothetical account of the events that took place preceding the party.

EL DORADO, Ark. -- President Bush has a penchant for dishing out good-natured insults, and usually the victim laughs along. But Sammie Briery didn't seem much amused when Bush fired one at her yesterday. Bush was wrapping up a town hall-style appearance at South Arkansas Community College when he let the jest fly. "You and my mother go to the same hair-dye person," Bush said to Briery, whose blondish bob bore little resemblance to Barbara Bush's shock of white hair. The audience in the gymnasium laughed, and Briery smiled, but replied firmly: "President Bush, I'm a natural blonde.

Bryan LaHair and Ian Stewart hit solo homers — a major outburst for the power-challenged Chicago Cubs — and Jeff Samardzija pitched into the eighth inning on Wednesday night for a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs opened the rain-shortened series with only their third multihomer game of the season. They managed only nine home runs in April, the fewest in the majors. LaHair's shot off Bronson Arroyo (1-1) gave him six overall. Samardzija (3-1) allowed three hits in 7 2-3 innings and contained Jay Bruce, holding the NL's player of the week to a harmless double.

Boston salons had their annual HairRaising event on Sunday to support Children's Hospital Boston. Stylists, some of whom came in on their day off, offered cuts for a minimum donation of $40, which went straight to the cause. This year's participants included members of the Celtics Dancers, including Kathryn, who got her hair cut by stylist Tatiana Lesnikova of Salon Mario Russo while dancer Monique looked on.
