FOXBOROUGH — As the furor of the Foxborough casino battle fades, one question that remains is what will become of the huge piece of land owned by Robert Kraft that would have housed the gaming and resort complex. Luck has not been kind to the 200-acre parcel located across from Gillette Stadium that is currently an overflow parking lot on game and event days. Before being targeted by Las Vegas casino developer Steve Wynn, the land was slated for a massive biotechnology park that also failed to take shape.

FOXBOROUGH - Wes Welker may have done himself a big disservice in contract negotiations with the Patriots Thursday when he spoke publicly about the progress - or lack thereof - in recent talks. "There have been talks, but nothing that's brightened anything at all," Welker told the Boston Herald. "It's actually gotten worse. " Welker explained that "worse" means the Patriots' offer is now less than the two-year, fully guaranteed $16 million the team proposed during the 2011 regular season.

Foxborough selectmen, who slammed the door on a casino in December, may soon crack it open again. The board plans to discuss whether it would be wise to begin studying the potential effects of a gambling resort in town, in anticipation of a formal proposal coming from Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn, said Selectman Larry Harrington, the board's chairman. A selectmen's meeting on the matter had been scheduled for Tuesday at the high school but the facility will not be available.

FOXBOROUGH -- Now do you believe? Now do you believe in the Indianapolis Colts? Now do you understand just how diminished the Patriots are? Now do you believe that four years ago was four years ago and last year was last year and this year the Patriots will do well to make the playoffs? Winning a game there would make this a successful season. That's it. That's the goal. You can save your money. There will be no need to book any flights for Detroit in February. All the worst fears were realized at Gillette Stadium last night.

Casino developer Steve Wynn abandoned plans Tuesday to build a Foxborough gambling resort on land owned by Robert Kraft, a decision that reshuffles the competition for the sole Greater Boston casino license by eliminating a top-tier competitor. Wynn's retreat - which leaves Suffolk Downs the leading contender in the Greater Boston region - was announced a day after anticasino candidates swept the Foxborough selectmen race. That vote marked the first ballot-box defeat for a would-be casino developer in Massachusetts.
