Ilya Kovalchuk scored three goals to record his second hat trick in just over three weeks to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday night. Patrik Elias and David Clarkson also scored and Martin Brodeur made 29 saves as the Devils earned their 38th win, matching last season's total when they missed the playoffs for the first time since 1996. Kovalchuk's linemates, Adam Henrique and Zach Parise, each had two assists, with Parise scoring his 400th NHL point.

Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves for his fourth shutout of the season, and the New York Rangers stayed atop the NHL standings with a 3-0 victory over Nashville that stopped the Predators' winning streak at five games last night at Madison Square Garden. The Predators, who beat the New York Islanders, 3-1, have won eight of 10. The Rangers had lost two of three entering the game. John Mitchell scored midway through the second period and defenseman Dan Girardi had a goal in the first.

Guillaume Latendresse scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period after getting a career-high three assists, giving the Minnesota Wild enough to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, last night in St. Paul. For only the fifth time in 22 games this season, the Penguins lost after scoring first, this time on Sidney Crosby’s early goal. He scored later, tying the game at 3 in the first minute of the third period to move past Marian Gaborik for second place in the NHL with 29 goals.

Shane Doan scored at the buzzer for the first hat trick of his 16-year NHL career, leading the Phoenix Coyotes to a 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night. Suspended goalie Evgeni Nabokov said he will go to training camp with the New York Islanders, Newsday reported on its website on Monday night. "Yes, I do plan on attending," Nabokov said Monday. "Now I will have full preparation for the season. " Nabokov did not report to the Islanders in January after he was claimed off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings by New York, which suspended the veteran goalie. Nabokov said that people speculated that he didn't want to report to the Islanders, who struggled last season in the Eastern Conference.

BOSTON — John Tavares tipped in Matt Moulson's shot for the late tiebreaking goal, Evgeni Nabokov stopped 32 shots, and the New York Islanders snapped a five-game, road-losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Josh Bailey and Moulson also had goals for the Islanders, who won for just the second time in six games. New York, 0-4-1 in its five previous road games, completed a 1-2-1 trip. Tyler Seguin tied the game for Boston with his 22nd goal early in the third period.

Evgeni Nabokov made 45 saves and Frans Nielsen and John Tavares scored on Ilya Bryzgalov in a shootout, helping the New York Islanders beat the Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 on Tuesday night. Nabokov was sensational, turning aside every shot he faced — including two in the shootout. The last-place Islanders are 6-1-2 in their last nine games and 11-5-2 in their past 18. Coming off losses to New Jersey and the New York Rangers last weekend, the Flyers hoped to rebound against a team they used to dominate.

Evgeni Nabokov stopped 17 shots to hand the Washington Capitals their first shutout of the season, and the New York Islanders got two goals from PA Parenteau in a 3-0 victory Tuesday night. The last-place Islanders ended Washington's seven-game, home winning streak and denied the Capitals' bid to move past idle Florida into first place in the Southeast Division. It was the 51st career shutout for the 36-year-old Nabokov and first with New York. He has 301 career wins, including eight this season.
