Dan Haren and the Los Angeles Angels are struggling. Haren lost his fourth straight start Saturday night as the Angels were defeated 3-2 by the San Diego Padres. Alexi Amarista scored San Diego's first two runs against his former team and then doubled in the go-ahead run off Haren in the seventh inning. "I'm better than this," said Haren, who has lost seven of nine decisions dating to last year. "I feel good, health-wise, at least from two starts ago. I thought I looked better as the game went on. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to win...

When all was said and done, the decision to trade shortstop Marco Scutaro saved the Red Sox pennies, at least with regard to the luxury tax. The question now concerns how the Red Sox intend to replace him, something for which some of us are willing to give the Sox almost an entire season to answer. After all, if Jose Iglesias is the starter by, say, Aug. 1, then all of this may make a good deal more sense. At the moment, the chance of that happening seems incredibly slim, if for no other reason than the wretched .235 batting average and .554 OPS that...

ANAHEIM, Calif. - They were baseball's best over the long, hot summer. Then came October, and another big chill. The Los Angeles Angels seemed to have it all: a powerful lineup strengthened by newcomers Torii Hunter and Mark Teixeira, an impressive rotation headed by John Lackey, and a bullpen anchored by record-setting closer Francisco Rodriguez. They won 100 games for the first time in franchise history, with eight of those victories coming in their nine meetings with the Red Sox, and baseball observers praised the Angels as a team that did the little things correctly.

Brett Anderson tossed three-hit ball over eight scoreless innings and Andy LaRoche drove in three runs to help the last-place Oakland Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 on Thursday. The A’s split their four-game series with the second-place Angels, who fell to 4-7 in their past 11 games. Anderson (3-4) struck out four and walked three to beat the Angels for the first time in six career starts. The left-hander had been 0-3 in his previous five starts. Anderson finally got some run support from his teammates, who had supplied two runs or less in...

Billy Butler hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the ninth inning Wednesday to give the Kansas City Royals a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Jeff Francoeur singled with one out before Butler connected off Scott Downs (3-2). The ball hit behind the outfield padding in left-center field and bounced back into play, and the umpires initially ruled it a double before video showed it to be a home run. Tim Collins (3-2), the fifth Royals pitcher, pitched 1 1-3 flawless innings for the win. Felipe Paulino, who made his first start of the season...
