With his carefully tended hair, tight trousers and perfect harmonies, Robin Gibb, along with his brothers Maurice and Barry, defined the disco era. As part of the Bee Gees — short for the Brothers Gibb — they created dance floor classics like "Stayin Alive," ''Jive Talkin'," and "Night Fever" that can still get crowds onto a dance floor. The catchy songs, with their falsetto vocals and relentless beat, are familiar pop culture mainstays. There are more than 6,000 cover versions of the Bee Gees hits, and they are still heard on dance floors and at wedding receptions, birthday...

US Senator Scott Brown has turned questions over Democrat Elizabeth Warren's claims of Native American ancestry into a key strategy in his bid to retain his Senate seat. Almost every day for more than two weeks, the Brown campaign or a Republican surrogate has highlighted the latest bit of news to emerge on the subject, often citing articles on conservative websites in a bid to coax more coverage from the mainstream news media. Warren's failure to offer a full and concise answer on what role her ancestry has played in her professional career has left an opening that has allowed the questions to linger.

FOXBOROUGH - Coughing up two leads after two goals by Saer Sene cost the Revolution 2 points. The toughest blow was the second one, with Houston scoring in the 87th minute and earning a 2-2 tie Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. LONDON — The Bank of England on Wednesday gave a gloomy outlook for the British economy as it cut its growth outlook and said inflation in the near term would be higher than previously expected. Weak growth and high inflation ‘‘has been painful for everyone in our society" and would continue to hurt disposable income in the near term, said Mervyn King, the Bank of England governor, as he presented the central bank's quarterly inflation report. ‘‘The path of recovery is likely to be slow and uncertain," he said, adding that for Britain the ‘‘biggest risk to...

He spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with palace policy. Spain last week complained to Britain over an upcoming visit to Gibraltar by Britain's Prince Edward.

First there was the American Repertory Theater production of “Sleep No More,’’ which puts spectators smack in the middle of the bloody doings of “Macbeth.’’ Now comes “England,’’ a surprisingly affecting conceptual work by Tim Crouch that also brings the audience face to face with the performers. The Bank of England has trimmed its growth forecast for the U.K. economy and warned that inflation will remain above target for another year — assuming the country isn't knocked off course by turmoil in the eurozone. In its quarterly Inflation Report released Wednesday, the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee reduced its growth forecast for this year from 1 percent just three months ago to 0.8 percent. It also abandoned a longstanding hope that consumer price inflation, now 3.5 percent, will fall back to the official 2 percent target by the end of the year.
