St. John’s Prep boys’ lacrosse coach John Roy stood on the sideline early during yesterday’s EMass Division 1 first-round game, nervously shuffling his feet, shifting his weight from left to right. He unfolded his arms just long enough to channel his voice as he shouted to his players. “We can’t possess,’’ the Eagles coach yelled midway through the opening quarter, his frustration clear. “We haven’t had the ball the whole quarter!’’ At that point, the reigning Division 1 champs held a 1-0 lead over host Framingham (14-5)

ANAHEIM, Calif. - In the infant stages of a young team's season, sustaining a high level of play has been Boston College's most arduous task. For nearly 14 minutes against Saint Louis yesterday, the Eagles led in the game by hauling down offensive boards, forcing outside shots, collapsing on post players, and poking away entry passes. It couldn't be sustained, though. Saint Louis turned a pair of BC turnovers into fast-break buckets, helping flip an 8-point deficit into a 15-point advantage.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — DeSean Jackson never thought he’d get a chance to field the ball, and Matt Dodge was ordered to punt away from the Eagles’ elusive return man. Well the rookie punted all right, straight to Jackson, who bobbled the ball before taking off on one of the greatest plays in NFL history — a breathtaking 65-yard punt return for the winning touchdown on the final play of the game. The Eagles did it again to the New York Giants, winning, 38-31, at the New Meadowlands Stadium yesterday — a bitter loss that revived memories of “The...

Two minutes remained in last night's Hockey East clash between Boston University and Boston College, when Eagles coach Jerry York took a furtive glance up at the Conte Forum scoreboard. BC was feverishly trying to get on the board against the Terriers, who were desperately trying to help goaltender Kieran Millan preserve a 5-0 shutout. "You've got to credit BU," York said. "They came in here and played very, very well. They came into our building and it's kind of hard to sit there and watch 5-nothin' up on the board with two minutes left in the game.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - By all accounts, Kevin Na didn't have many issues in the final round with his pre-shot routine, which became one of the biggest stories at the Players Championship Saturday, when he took the lead despite battling an inability to take the club back in a timely manner. Na was much better with the multiple waggles and stops and restarts Sunday. But he heard enough negative comments from a small number of spectators that piled on to what turned into a tough day: Na shot 76 and finished tied for seventh.
