NASHVILLE — Jack White has built himself a do-it-yourself utopia in a nondescript building downtown. Third Man Records features a recording studio, a stage for live performances that doubles as a soundstage, a darkroom, and a record store out front. White can take a concept, put it on tape, design and produce the cover and liner notes, shoot the video, and record a live show in a matter of weeks. It’s the kind of place where a band can thrive, and his latest, the Dead Weather, is doing just that.

It’s been eight years since these Ohio-spawned rockers released an album. Members Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler have been busy working in side projects with White Stripes leader Jack White including the Raconteurs, Loretta Lynn’s “Van Lear Rose,’’ and, in Lawrence’s case, the Dead Weather. But the band is returning with a splash, cheekily titling its fourth album “ .’’ A title like that is winkingly begging for either vehement agreement or haughty contrarianism but you’ll find neither here.

The first thing you’ll want to do after seeing the Dead Weather in concert is take a shower. Probably a cold one. At least that was the impression at the band’s sold-out show at the House of Blues Wednesday night, an evening of dirty and depraved junkyard rock rooted deep in the blues. The performance was so intoxicating, you couldn’t avert your eyes from the stage — mainly out of fear that sinister singer Alison Mosshart might knife you while your back was turned. The Dead Weather is made up of four musicians who first made their names in other bands.

Alison Mosshart stole Jack White’s star Saturday night. You, like most of us, probably went to the Dead Weather show at House of Blues to watch White - singer-guitarist for the White Stripes - play the drums in his new supergroup. You likely left with the impression of how completely Mosshart, whose day job is singer for the British duo the Kills, commandeered the stage. Even the charismatic White was no match for Mosshart’s feral presence - and in her case, “presence’’ is an absurd understatement.

BEIRUT - The first sign of trouble was a flash of light on the horizon yesterday - and then witnesses said the Boeing 737 tumbled like “fire falling down from the sky’’ into the stormy Mediterranean Sea. All 90 aboard the Ethiopian Airlines jet were feared dead in the predawn crash. Lebanon’s leaders ruled out terrorism while investigators collected witness accounts in hopes they could provide clues. Aviation experts cautioned it was too early to know what brought down the plane jet - particularly without the black boxes.

Jack White is releasing his first solo album "Blunderbuss" on April 24. White released a single, "Love Interruption," from the record Monday and expected to make it available for sale Monday night on iTunes. The album is the former White Stripes frontman's first record since he announced the breakup of that pioneering rock 'n' roll duo last year. White also is a member of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. White offered few details about the new album in a news release Monday.

He has been a White Stripe, a Raconteur, and a Dead Weather-man and now he is finally, simply, Jack White. Of course, all of those groups serve as a preamble to "Blunderbuss," out today, each informing the 13 reeling and rocking tracks. An analog man in a digital world, White supplies a "trip through the past" quality to "Blunderbuss" — as there has been with most of his output. But, with the help of an able cadre of fiddlers, drummers, mandolin and pedal steel players, and even a clarinetist, White continues to prove he is an ardent and gifted history student who is mindful of...

For 10 years, the Kills have made the most out of the fewest components necessary for rock 'n' roll - meaning, in the Kills' case, a vocalist, a guitarist, and an attitude. The duo formed in London after a chance hotel encounter between a multitalented Englishman in his early 30s with a knack for nasty, blues-rock riffs, and a decade-younger American woman who could wail to match. On the duo's striking 2002 debut EP, "Black Rooster," the sound barely added up to a one-person-band, with a drum machine completing the package.

Saturday Night Live 11:30 p.m. Channel 7 Tonight, that original purveyor of Linsanity (Ms. Lohan, if you're nasty) takes her fourth turn hosting "Saturday Night Live. " While the more cynical among us might suggest that the "SNL" of today constitutes only the slightest step up from the morgue where LiLo has been paying her community service dues, the less cynical among us can merely regard tonight's appearance as a lousy message to send to the young folks. Here's hoping our consternation is interrupted by the occasional snicker.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Divers found more human remains in the Mississippi River yesterday, 11 days after a highway bridge collapsed into the fast-flowing water. A crane working at one end of the ruined span removed a school bus and other vehicles. Navy divers searched for five people missing and presumed dead. Stormy weather made their task more dangerous over the weekend, strengthening river currents Saturday. But conditions had cleared yesterday and the remains were recovered about eight hours into the search, the Hennepin County sheriff's office said.
