A baby who was found in a car seat in a Worcester street has led police to an apartment where they discovered a dead man and two injured women. The Telegram & Gazette reports ( http://bit.ly/KUJFSI) that police say the unidentified man found on the floor of the apartment late Saturday night was a homicide victim. An injured woman was nearby and the second woman was found elsewhere in the apartment. Police also found a pit bull. Police say the unidentified women are hospitalized with critical injuries.

Massachusetts authorities might have trouble bringing one man on the state Probation Department's 10 most wanted list to justice— he's been dead for nearly a decade. State police found out this week that Robert Sieracki, whose last known address was in the Osterville section of Barnstable, died in Mexico in November 2002. A state police spokesman tells the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/sdHcdh) the department learned from his sister that he was dead. The death was confirmed with an Ohio funeral home.

The funeral of a 28 year-old waiter in southern Egypt turned into a celebration when he woke up after being declared dead. Hospital officials had pronounced dead Hamdi Hafez al-Nubi, who came from the village of Naga al-Simman in the southern province of Luxor, after he suffered a heart attack while working. His family says grieving relatives took him home and, according to Islamic tradition, washed his body and prepared him for burial Friday evening. A doctor sent to sign the death certificate found it strange that his body was warm.

Authorities say an early-morning fire tore through an apartment in New Bedford, trapping and killing one man and injuring four others including an 8-year-old child. Fire Chief Michael Gomes said Saturday that the dead man is a 39-year-old resident of the second-floor apartment. A 6-year-old child and an 8-year-old sibling were among those hurt in the blaze. Their father and the older child suffered serious burns and were flown by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

A South African club rugby player has drowned and five of his teammates are missing and presumed dead after 21 people were swept out to sea off the country's south coast. The National Sea Rescue Institute said Sunday 15 people were rescued after rip currents dragged away the group of swimmers — most of them rugby players — at Blue Water Bay Beach near Port Elizabeth. The NSRI said the dead man and the five still missing were all members of the local Motherwell Rugby Club.

Two New Orleans police officers are undergoing surgery after being shot during a traffic stop near City Park. Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says two suspects were also shot around 5:45 a.m. Thursday by the officers. One suspect died at the scene and the other was wounded. Serpas says the officers were taken to a local hospital and immediately taken into surgery. The condition of the injured suspect is unknown. Terry Smith, an employee of a nearby fast food restaurant, identified the dead man as a co-worker.

Authorities say a customer at a South Carolina Waffle shop pulled a gun and shot one of two men trying to rob the restaurant. The Greenville News reports ( http://grnol.co/AkoQDk) that the shooting took place early Saturday morning inside a Waffle Shop off Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County. Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the dead man as 19-year-old Dante Lamont Williams of Roebuck, who was shot in the head and body. Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright declined to identity the customer, citing concerns for his safety.

Authorities have arrested a man they say stabbed to death two women, wounded a man and barricaded himself naked in a Los Angeles County home. Thirty-one-year-old Virgil Tate was arrested Sunday night and remains jailed on $1 million bail. A report of a man with a knife sent sheriff's deputies to a condominium in the unincorporated area near Carson around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Lt. SAN DIEGO - Two Navy pilots were among four people found dead in a New Year's Day shooting at a tony condominium on San Diego Bay, a military spokeswoman confirmed yesterday. First Lieutenant Maureen Dooley, a Marine Corps spokeswoman, said the two Navy pilots were stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. She said the military was not releasing any details yet. It was still not clear what prompted the shooting. Officials found a dead man in the doorway to the three-story condo in Coronado and the bodies of two men and a woman inside in different areas.
