During a recent Democratic caucus in Newton, Elizabeth Warren worked one side of the room while Joseph P. Kennedy III worked the other. In between them stood Kyle Sullivan, their shared communications adviser. Sullivan and his partner, Doug Rubin, are splitting their time between two of the hottest political races not just in Massachusetts but the country. It speaks to the reputation Rubin built locally helping Timothy Cahill win his first term as treasurer and Deval Patrick win both of his terms as governor.

Governor Deval Patrick, continuing to ramp up his involvement in national politics, will be named today one of 30 national co-chairs of President Obama's reelection campaign, according to aides to both men. The title, which Patrick also held in Obama's campaign in 2008, means the governor will advise the president on political strategy, host events on his behalf, and help organize Obama's supporters in Massachusetts. Patrick and Obama share roots in Chicago and political advisers in David Plouffe and David Axelrod, and consider one another to be friends.

A top adviser to President Barack Obama says the White House is "happy to have a debate" about Obama's performance in office, while a leading House Republican says the president can't win on his record. The contrasting views of senior White House adviser David Plouffe (pluhf) and Republican House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan serve as a warm up for Obama's State of the Union address. Plouffe says the administration considers this "a make-or-break" moment for the middle class.

WASHINGTON — President Obama, who hitched his ride to the White House three years ago largely on the infectious energy and organizing efforts of young Americans, faces challenges as he attempts to court their support in his reelection bid, political analysts say. Voters under 30 have, as a group, become increasingly disillusioned dealing with the demoralizing economy. Their 13 percent unemployment rate is significantly higher than the national average, as many students graduate into a world of massive college loan debts and barren job markets.
