Darrelle Revis refused to get into all the trash talk. Sure, the Jets cornerback heard that one Giants wide receiver called him merely "decent," while another insisted that teams no longer are afraid of him. All he could do was chuckle. "I mean, I'm not a monster," a laughing Revis said. "So why would anybody be scared? I don't know. " On Wednesday, Giants wideout Victor Cruz told reporters that Revis has to "earn his money this year" and that teams "aren't really backing down" from the All-Pro cornerback.

The Patriots announced several changes to their coaching staff Thursday, most notably naming Matt Patricia defensive coordinator. Patricia, 37, has been the primary defensive playcaller for at least two seasons, and is the first to hold the title since Dean Pees left after the 2009 season. This is his ninth year in New England. He began in 2004 as an offensive coaching assistant, switching to defense in '06 when Pees was promoted to coordinator and Patricia took over as linebackers coach.

New York Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis called New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick a "jerk" during an appearance on ESPN. Revis was playing a word association game on "SportsCenter" on Wednesday with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski when the Jets star was asked to say what he thinks when he hears Bill Belichick's name. "Jerk," Revis said, before explaining, "Just some of the comments he says about the Jets. " Gronkowski said he "wasn't expecting that one. " The Patriots star then answered "entertainer" when he was asked what he thinks of when he...

Darrelle Revis still is upset with Bill Belichick. The All-Pro cornerback said Thursday that the way the Patriots coach "disrespects" the New York Jets is uncalled for and not professional. "When you make it personal, when you say things that are personal, why go there?" Revis said of derogatory comments he believes Belichick made last season, particularly after a 37-16 home loss to New England. "When you are talking about having a better defense, OK. But when you say they can suck … or whatever.

Even in victory, Darrelle Revis was feeling disappointed. Jacksonville receiver Jason Hill, who wondered if the Jets' All-Pro cornerback and his team's defense have been "overhyped," never made it on to the field Sunday. Hill mentioned last week that the Jets benefited from being in the nation's largest media market. "I think the whole New York is overhyped," Hill told the Florida Times-Union. "Him personally, he's a good player, Pro Bowl player. I'm trying to make it to the Pro Bowl, too. This'll be a good game to put some notches on our belts, too. " The Jets got all the notches with...

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - One trip into the end zone wasn't enough for Plaxico Burress. Neither was two. One touchdown catch after another, Burress had the big breakout game he and the New York Jets had been expecting. The veteran wide receiver tied a career high by catching three TD passes, including the go-ahead score that was set up by another interception by Darrelle Revis, as the Jets stormed back in the second half to defeat the San Diego Chargers, 27-21, yesterday.

Don't outsmart yourself in Week 1. Play your top guys and don't concern yourselves with matchups. It's too early. Example: If Joe Flacco is your starting quarterback, he's facing Pittsburgh Sunday. The Steelers defense is frightening, but if Flacco is your first quarterback drafted and your backup is of the Donovan McNabb/Mark Sanchez ilk, you have to consider giving Flacco a shot in the opener. I'm facing a similar problem. Miles Austin is one of my top receivers, and he's practicing again after sitting out with a hamstring issue.

Darrelle Revis did Versus and NFL Films a big favor when he made the key play in the New York Jets' 27-24 victory over Dallas on Sunday night. Revis wore a microphone for a weekly new show, "NFL Turning Point," that will be aired each Thursday night on Versus, beginning this week. Then he produced the turning point for his team with a last-minute interception to set up Nick Folk's 50-yard field goal. The All-Pro cornerback said Wednesday it's the first time he has worn a microphone during a game, and his conversations with outspoken Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant...

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Darrelle Revis ran back an interception 100 yards for a touchdown and the New York Jets did just enough to beat the Miami Dolphins, 24-6, last night and end a three-game losing streak. Mark Sanchez threw a touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes and ran for another score as Rex Ryan's Jets - who called this a "must-win" game - capped a tough week by pulling out a victory and sending the winless Dolphins to their fifth straight loss. With the losses mounting and the season already on the brink of spinning out of control for the Jets (3-3)

In what is almost becoming as predictable as a Super Bowl guarantee from Jets coach Rex Ryan, there were some negative words lobbed from the New York Jets facility toward the Patriots on Thursday. Cornerback Darrelle Revis led the way, and explained why he referred to Bill Belichick as a "jerk" on ESPN a few months ago. "I gave my honest opinion," Revis said. "You guys know me very well. This isn't the first time me speaking what I need to speak about something. I talked about the Randy Moss stuff… It's just how I felt.

Oregon running back LaMichael James is skipping his senior year and declaring himself eligible for the NFL draft. James, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2010, said yesterday he has not hired an agent. "I feel like I'm leaving with a bang," said James, less than a week after he helped the Ducks to a victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. A 5-foot-9-inch, 195-pound All-American, James rushed for a school-record 1,805 yards despite missing two games with a dislocated right elbow.

NEW YORK — Lions receiver Calvin Johnson and Vikings defensive end Jared Allen were the leading vote getters for The Associated Press 2011 NFL All-Pro Team, each falling one vote short of being unanimous choices. Aaron Rodgers was the quarterback for the first time, easily beating New Orleans' Drew Brees, 47½ to 2½. Rodgers led Green Bay to a league-best 15-1 record, maintaining the brilliance he showed in taking the Packers to the Super Bowl title last February. And Patriots offensive weapons Rob Gronkowski and Wes Welker both earned spots on the squad.

The Lions are in; the Eagles are out. The Falcons are in by virtue of the Bears' loss last night. Cincinnati is closing in on a playoff berth, while the Jets and Raiders need help. All part of a wild closing act to the NFL season, in which the most notable news of the weekend was made by Detroit. The last time the Lions were a force, Barry Sanders was in their backfield. Sanders retired after the 1998 season, and Detroit made the postseason the next year then plummeted to the bottom of the league.

The New York Jets put their playoff hopes in Mark Sanchez's hands against the Giants' porous pass defense. The maligned quarterback couldn't deliver. Just like most of his teammates. Sanchez threw a career-high 59 passes, completing 30 of them, but also had two interceptions and lost a fumble inside the 5-yard line in the Jets' 29-14 loss that was a devastating blow to their playoff hopes. "We had a good opportunity to control our own destiny," Sanchez said. "It's completely our fault.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Darrelle Revis and his teammates in the New York Jets’ secondary got together earlier this week and discussed what they could do better. Being ranked second in the NFL in passing defense apparently isn’t good enough. “We need to make more plays,’’ Revis said. “That’s just the bottom line. We just need to be more aggressive in the secondary and make more plays.’’ That’s actually the running theme this week off the bye for the entire defense, not just the secondary.

All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis says he was not playing head games with the Jets when he said he felt lightheaded during practice Monday and sat out a few plays. A day after staging what appeared to be a protest of his stalled contract negotiations, Revis said yesterday he actually hadn’t eaten before practice Monday and legitimately felt “a little lightheaded.’’ Defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman told him to take a short break, and Revis went to the sideline.

In his own colorful way, Rex Ryan expressed his latest thoughts on the New York Jets' playoff chances. "We know where we think we're going," he said. "More confident than 100 percent? I don't know about that. " No matter what he thinks or knows or doesn't know, and regardless of what sort of math is used, Ryan naturally has to be more confident after the Jets' 34-19 victory Sunday over the Washington Redskins. After all, a win is better than a loss — especially for a team that feels it can't lose again if it's going to stay in contention — but the sweat-it-out process of...
