His passes were hitting receivers in stride and right between the numbers, not skipping off the ground or whizzing behind their heads like so many of Tim Tebow's. The Denver Broncos got their first real taste of Peyton Manning on Monday with a spirited, fast-paced workout in Englewood, Colo., the four-time MVP's first full practice in more than 16 months. "It felt good to be out there," Manning said. "It's been about a year and a half since I've been in uniform, been in an organized practice.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Seattle Seahawks for a draft pick on Monday night and signed former Colts star Dallas Clark to replace him. Earlier in the day, Winslow told SiriusXM radio that first-year coach Greg Schiano was "kind of upset" that Winslow has not been working out with the team during the offseason. "That's kind of shocking, but that's what it is," Winslow said, adding that Schiano told him the coach "would help me out with a trade.

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning made his first appearance in front of his home fans in nearly a month. During Sunday night's pregame warmups, Manning stood next to offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen as he threw passes to Dallas Clark. Manning then walked over to another receiver, Austin Collie, and slapped hands with his teammate. Manning's last appearance at Lucas Oil Stadium was Aug. 26 when he dressed in the same khaki slacks and blue-and-white golf shirt for a preseason game.

Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts were in the Super Bowl just two short years ago, ball in the quarterback's hands, three minutes to go. Manning threw a pass intended for teammate Reggie Wayne that ended up in the hands of New Orleans Saints defensive back Tracy Porter, and that, in retrospect, was the end of the Indianapolis empire. Last season, the Colts went 2-14. On Wednesday, they will release Manning. Where the Colts go from here is an obvious mystery, with or without the No. 1 pick in next month's annual draft.

The Indianapolis Colts are starting over. Completely. Two days after releasing Peyton Manning, the longtime face of the franchise, the Colts announced they were cutting four fan favorites: running back Joseph Addai, linebacker Gary Brackett, safety Melvin Bullitt and tight end Dallas Clark. Quarterback Curtis Painter also was released Friday. "All these players, we'd love to have them here," new general manager Ryan Grigson said during a hastily arranged conference call with reporters.

For those fans already giving the AFC West title and maybe a whole lot more to the Mannings, uh, Broncos, some words of caution. Sure, Denver won the division last season, but it hardly was a display of power. The Broncos went 8-8 in the weakest sector in the NFL, winning mostly on defense, long-range field goals and the resilience of Tim Tebow. Not to mention some incredible good fortune and brain freeze by opponents. And yes, that formula is certain to change quite a bit with Peyton Manning running the show.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have made up their minds. A person with direct knowledge of the situation told the AP that the team will take Stanford quarterback Andrew with the No. 1 pick in next week's NFL draft. The team has informed Luck that he will replace Peyton Manning, whom the Colts parted ways with last month. The person spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because the team has not publicly disclosed its plans. Luck has been expected to be the top pick since he returned for his junior season with the Cardinal last year.

The Baltimore Ravens took another step toward securing a postseason berth, and the hapless Indianapolis Colts slipped a notch closer to matching one of the NFL's most dubious records. Terrell Suggs had three sacks and forced three fumbles as part of an overwhelming defensive performance by the Ravens, who kept Indianapolis winless with a 24-10 victory Sunday. Baltimore (10-3) limited the Colts (0-13) to 167 yards — just 53 through three quarters. Were it not for a touchdown on the game's final play, Indianapolis would have been held without a TD for only the second time since...

MIAMI - While the Miami Dolphins’ celebrities were making a Hollywood-style grand entrance, Peyton Manning slipped in a side door and stole the show. Manning threw two touchdown passes to take some sheen off the Dolphins’ glitzy makeover under new owner Stephen Ross, and the Indianapolis Colts came from behind four times to win, 27-23, last night. The Dolphins rolled out an orange carpet for the pregame arrival of Ross’s celebrity partners. The crowd included Serena and Venus Williams, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Buffett, and Colts rooter Tiger Woods.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts don’t need Peyton Manning playing at an MVP level to win every game. Yesterday, Indianapolis found out an old-fashioned formula — defense and turnovers — works just fine. The Colts overcame Manning’s season-low 185 yards passing by scoring 17 points off five Cincinnati turnovers, and stopped the Bengals twice in the final 2 minutes 40 seconds to preserve a 23-17 victory. “That’s the way it has been with this team over the years,’’ defensive end Dwight Freeney said.
