Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. said Friday that it will add 600 employees over the next few years to staff an $18 million office building it plans for its central Indiana headquarters. The project includes the construction of a 130,000 square-foot office building that will connect to the company’s corporate campus in downtown Columbus. It is the third expansion in the area announced by Cummins in the past year and will give it nearly 3,000 workers in Columbus, about three times its local presence in 2008.

The U.S. is sticking with what works when it comes to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Americans will play their second home qualifier Sept. 11 against Jamaica at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus General Manager Scott Howson announced the move Sunday, a day after the Blue Jackets wrapped up their season with a 7-3 victory over the New York Islanders. Atkinson scored two goals in that game and had an assist.

Columbus starting pitcher Joe Martinez shook off a tough start to pitch seven strong innings Tuesday to lead the Clippers to an 8-3 victory over Omaha in the Triple-A championship game. It was the third victory of the postseason for Martinez, who had a 2.45 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 22 innings for the International League champion Clippers. Bernardo Anor scored in the 56th minute and the Columbus Crew beat host Toronto FC, 1-0, Saturday. The opportunistic Anor put the Crew in front after Toronto captain Julian de Guzman lost possession in midfield. Columbus drove toward the goal and, after a nice give and go, a clearing attempt by defender Logan Emory bounced straight back to Anor, who banged it in from close range.
