Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. said Friday that it will add 600 employees over the next few years to staff an $18 million office building it plans for its central Indiana headquarters. The project includes the construction of a 130,000 square-foot office building that will connect to the company’s corporate campus in downtown Columbus. It is the third expansion in the area announced by Cummins in the past year and will give it nearly 3,000 workers in Columbus, about three times its local presence in 2008.

The U.S. is sticking with what works when it comes to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Americans will play their second home qualifier Sept. 11 against Jamaica at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. They've never lost in Columbus, going 5-0-3 there since 2000, and have conceded only one goal. That came in the Americans' last game against Jamaica in World Cup qualifying, a 1-1 draw on Nov. 17, 2004. The Americans are 4-0-2 in World Cup qualifying in Columbus. "Playing a World Cup qualifier in Columbus makes perfect sense," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said Wednesday.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Brady Hamilton drove in two runs, J.T. Phillips struck out eight, and Josh Lester made a nice grab of a line drive to thwart a rally, helping Columbus, Ga., defeat Beaverton, Ore., 7-3, yesterday to win the US title and advance to the championship game of the Little League World Series. Hamilton broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning by flaring a pitch from Jace Fry just out of the shortstop's reach to score Phillips from second. Columbus got some breathing room with three runs in the sixth.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- You haven't tasted ice cream until you've tasted Jeni's. Located at the historic North Market in Ohio's biggest city, Jeni's Ice Cream is boutique frozen confection at its best, hand-crafted in small batches with exotic sounding ingredients like Madagascar vanilla bean, Vietnamese cinnamon, and varietal chocolates from Venezuela and around Africa. Owner Jeni Britton supports local farmers as well, insisting on fresh Ohio dairy, and Ashland County honey and fruits from the Ohio countryside.

CARSON, Calif. - Midfield maestro Guillermo Barros Schelotto collected some more hefty bling. Coach Sigi Schmid got a sense of redemption. Afterward, Schelotto received the game's MVP award to go with the regular-season MVP trophy he was presented earlier in the week.

Bernardo Anor scored in the 56th minute and the Columbus Crew beat host Toronto FC, 1-0, Saturday. The opportunistic Anor put the Crew in front after Toronto captain Julian de Guzman lost possession in midfield. Columbus drove toward the goal and, after a nice give and go, a clearing attempt by defender Logan Emory bounced straight back to Anor, who banged it in from close range. Columbus (2-1-0) improved to 2-0-5 at BMO Field. Toronto (0-3-0) is winless in MLS play, but is just one game away from the CONCACAF Champions League final.

CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio - Sometimes the cheapest way to get somewhere is by traveling through the middle of nowhere. That's what some flyers may think when booking the low fares on Skybus Airlines Inc., which launched service in May and offers 10 seats on every flight for $10 each. Overall, the 144 or 156 seats per plane are offered, on average, for 50 percent less than on competing airlines, the Columbus, Ohio-based carrier said. But to reach the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles region, or New Orleans vicinity from Boston's nearest Skybus airport, passengers leave from...

Derek Stepan scored 22 seconds into overtime, and the New York Rangers overcame a late tying goal by Columbus and one disallowed on their side in a 3-2 victory over the Blue Jackets on Sunday night. Stepan took a pass from Michael Del Zotto, who faked a shot and scored into a wide-open left side of the net. Columbus captain Rick Nash, the subject of trade rumors — including those involving the Rangers — got the Blue Jackets even at 2 with 1:33 left in regulation. That prompted chants of "We don't want you" from the disappointed Madison Square Garden crowd.
