Kei Kamara scored on a diving header late in the first half and host Sporting Kansas City beat the David Beckham-less Los Angeles Galaxy, 1-0, Saturday to improve to 5-0. Sporting is the first club to begin a season with five regulation wins since Los Angeles opened 12-0 in 1996, Major League Soccer's inaugural year. Kansas City also extended its home unbeaten streak to five matches against Los Angeles, which is 1-3 after winning the MLS Cup last season. Kansas City has four shutouts in five matches, and goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen did not have to make a save against the Galaxy.

Chris Wondolowski scored two goals and Shea Salinas added another as the visiting San Jose Earthquakes earned a 3-0 win over Toronto FC Saturday. Wondolowski almost had the hat trick, but he hit the goal post from close range in the 87th minute. Toronto has never beaten San Jose at home, going 0-2-3. Toronto showed flashes of style on offense, but did not have the clinical finish to take advantage. And it was let down by its defense. Manager Aron Winter's team has allowed six goals in two games.

Last year's final was Nov. 20. With the expansion Montreal Impact giving the league 19 teams, MLS is switching to an unbalanced schedule while keeping the regular season at 34 games per team. Just seven games conflict with FIFA fixture dates, when many star players are away with national teams: Chicago at New England (June 1)
