Pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez singled over a five-man infield with the bases loaded in the 11th inning, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday to take the three-game series. Buster Poster singled off sidearm submariner Tim Dillard (0-1) leading off the inning and pinch-runner Emmanuel Burriss moved to second on Angel Pagan's sacrifice bunt. Dillard walked Brandon Belt intentionally then Ryan Theriot to load the bases. Left fielder Ryan Braun moved into the infield before Sanchez sent a full-count pitch off Dillard down the left-field...

Andrews examined Wilson on Wednesday and confirmed the Giants' diagnosis of a torn ulnar collateral ligament that will sideline him all season.

Sections of two light standards at Busch Stadium failed with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday night, delaying the finish of the San Francisco Giants’ game at St. Louis. The Giants were leading 7-5 and the Cardinals had a runner on first against Brian Wilson with a 2-1 count on Allen Craig. That’s when more than half of two sections of the lights to the right of home plate went out. Umpires conferred briefly before halting play.

WASHINGTON - Manager Bruce Bochy handed President Obama a No. 44 Giants jersey, the standard gift when a championship team is feted at the White House. Then, Matt Cain threw Obama a curve by giving him a bat emblazoned with the president's name and signed by the team. "That's beautiful," Obama said twice. Giants fans could utter the same words amid a moment they dreamed of seeing: Their castoffs and misfits standing on risers in the East Room of the White House accepting congratulations from the president on winning the 2010 World Series.

Brian Wilson remains a fascinating figure -- a man-child whose musical genius is beyond debate, but whose personal life has been filled with torment, emotional breakdowns, and ultimately the miraculous courage to come back. Showtime's world premiere of "Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of 'Smile' " is one of the most sympathetic music documentaries ever made -- and why not? Many lesser men have been declared pop heroes, which at the very least defines Wilson after his near-mythic life and his wait of 37 years for his masterpiece, "Smile," to reach the general public.

Tim Lincecum's right knee still throbbing, Chase Utley hustled out toward the mound to apologize that his bat had struck the pitcher. A tense four-game series featuring a benches-clearing brawl between NL division leaders ended with an act of sportsmanship. "He said, ‘Sorry, man,"' said Lincecum, San Francisco's ace. "Bad hop. Bad luck. " Lincecum stayed sharp until Utley accidentally lost his grip and the Giants ended the Philadelphia Phillies' season-high nine-game winning streak, tagging Roy Oswalt in a 3-1 win Sunday.

As strange as this may sound for a reliever, Brian Wilson actually finds comfort in chaos. The hairier the situation, the more the San Francisco closer with the distinctive black beard bears down. Wilson worked his way into a very sticky situation on Thursday, only to escape with his first save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. The adventurous 32-pitch final inning was just another day on the mound for the reliever who always seems to load the bases before going to work.

No win for the ages. Or, for that matter, the aged. Madison Bumgarner scattered four hits over 7 1-3 innings and took a no-hit bid into the sixth Thursday in the San Francisco Giants' 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. At 49, Moyer failed in his second attempt to become the oldest pitcher to win a major league game. Moyer (0-2) surrendered four runs, two of them earned, and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings. He walked one, struck out three and hit a batter before leaving to a standing ovation in the sixth.

Matt Cain's job stability is now in excellent shape for years to come. On Tuesday night, he pitched with a clear mind. Cain struck out six in five innings to cap an unbeaten spring, delivering in a 3-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics a day after the two-time All-Star agreed to a $127.5 million, six-year contract that is the richest in baseball history for a right-hander. All along, Cain (4-0) insisted he wanted to resolve his situation one way or another before opening day — and the Giants came through with a big pay day. "Yeah, it's a...

Carlos Beltran was finally healthy enough to give the home fans a reason to cheer. Beltran shook of the pain around his right wrist to hit his first home run since being traded to San Francisco, powering the Giants past the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Wednesday night. The switch-hitting right fielder wasn't even sure he could hit lefty before the game. He applied a heat pack to his wrist between innings as the thick summer fog rolled under the lights in the ballpark along the bay, and it was just enough to ease the pain.
