NBA New Jersey Governor Chris Christie bid the Brooklyn-bound Nets goodbye and good riddance Monday hours before the team's final game in Newark. Christie, who did not attend the Nets' 105-87 loss to the 76ers, held nothing back when asked about the team's decision to leave after spending the past 35 years in New Jersey, including the last two in the state's largest city. Christie said that if the Nets didn't want to stay in New Jersey, the state didn't want them. Speaking after a bill signing in Newark, Christie said he would not be shedding any tears over the Nets' departure.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Bobby Petrino has improved every step of the way at Arkansas — not just his team's performance but his image. The coach's revelation Thursday of an inappropriate relationship and his attempt to cover it up now threatens to derail all the progress Petrino has made in four seasons. Arkansas is expected to return to spring practice Friday afternoon, led by a pair of Heisman Trophy hopefuls in quarterback Tyler Wilson and running back Knile Davis. The team will do so without Petrino, who was put on administrative leave Thursday night after athletic...

The former mistress of fired University of Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino has resigned from her position with the program, school officials announced Tuesday. Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long made it perfectly clear what he expects from his staff as he put coach Bobby Petrino on leave for keeping him in the dark about a sordid-looking relationship with a female employee. "It's difficult any time that we have a coach, an employee that makes a misstep, it's disappointing to me," Long said. "We have high expectations. I think every coach and every administrator and every staff person knows we have high expectations. Certainly, I'm disappointed.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - DeAngelo Hall plans to give it his all the rest of the season. He wonders if the Atlanta Falcons are making the same commitment. The Pro Bowl cornerback went off on his team yesterday - specifically coach Bobby Petrino and the front office - after the Falcons (1-6) released defensive tackle Grady Jackson during their bye week. "I don't know what kind of message is being sent to let Grady go," Hall said. "I'm trying to go [all] out on every single snap.

NEW YORK - Matt Ryan found a quick way to make Falcons fans forget Michael Vick, Bobby Petrino, and all the ugliness of Atlanta football. The quarterback led a sensational turnaround from laughingstock franchise to Super Bowl contender, for which Ryan earned The Associated Press 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award yesterday. And he did it in a year loaded with outstanding offensive rookie performances. "I'm certainly flattered," the former Boston College star said.

1. Keep off the grass Kudos to the WAC for reprimanding San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre for rushing onto the field to argue with officials during the closing moments of his club's 17-14 loss to Nevada Saturday. MacIntyre, who was flagged for a personal foul, was arguing the spot of the ball after Nevada was given a first down. The WAC said MacIntyre violated the conference's sportsmanship code and he will be suspended for further violations. MacIntyre is hardly the only coach guilty of this practice.

MIAMI -- The message is getting old for fifth-ranked Louisville. Nearly every day during the past year, coach Bobby Petrino relentlessly has hit the Cardinals with the same refrain -- finish. Finish practice. Finish the play. Finish the tackle. Finish the game. It's a motto born of late-second frustrations and meltdowns that have cost the program in years past. "We need to show that we can win the big game and just keep going," Petrino said. And while the mantra has grown tiresome to the Cardinals (11-1)

Explosive returner Joe Adams had one last big highlight to help No. 7 Arkansas end a record-tying season in tall Cotton. All-SEC quarterback Tyler Wilson was well short of the record passing performance he had earlier this season at Cowboys Stadium, but did throw two touchdown passes after Adams' fourth punt return for a TD and the Razorbacks beat No. 11 Kansas State 29-16 in the Cotton Bowl on Friday night. The Razorbacks (11-2) matched a school record with their 11th victory.
