For decades, those with high cholesterol have been given a list of don'ts when it comes to their diet: Don't eat cholesterol-rich eggs; don't eat butter; don't eat red meat or regular ice cream. Well, now researchers have identified a list of do's for the diet that may work to lower cholesterol levels better than avoiding those don'ts. The girl can't help it if she's better than all the guys. Most of them, anyway. You may be aware that ESPN employs a legion, a flotilla, a mile-long line of box cars filled with analysts and pundits. On-air talent roll call in Bristol takes five hours, with coffee and lunch breaks factored in. Among those many talking heads, one stands apart. Jeff Van Gundy can't do what she does. Dick Vitale can't do what she does. Kara Lawson can't do what she does. ESPN employs only one person with the sufficient knowledge, credibility, and performance skills to be a basketball analyst for...

You can't blame US Olympic men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski if he's rooting against the Heat in the NBA playoffs. An Indiana victory will free up LeBron James , Dwyane Wade , and Chris Bosh to join newly sprung Blake Griffin and Chris Paul of the Clippers. Also still playing are Kevin Durant , Russell Westbrook , and James Harden of the Thunder, Kobe Bryant of the Lakers, and Andre Iguodala of the 76ers. After the league's truncated, cram-jammed season, Krzyzewski would love for his...

When Mike Jarvis was a junior point guard on Northeastern University's basketball team in 1965, he started taking notes about the plays his coach, Dick Dukeshire, ran in practice. "It became my coaching bible, and 90 percent of my defense I use today came right out of that notebook," said Jarvis, a former assistant under Mr. Dukeshire at Northeastern and now head coach at Florida Atlantic University. "He was, without a doubt, the best teacher of basketball I ever knew," said Jarvis, whose coaching career included trips to the NCAA Tournament while at Boston University,...

By Bob Holmes, Globe Staff The Tournament Management Committee voted 13-0-1 in favor of expanding Division 4 to Central and Western Massachusetts starting in 2013. Currently Division 4 is limited to EMass. The vote also means that some EMass schools will be moved to CMass for the tournament, and some CMass schools will be placed in WMass, all in the interest of having the same number of schools in each sectional. The EMass schools most likely to move would be those closest to CMass.
