The doctor who operated on Derrick Rose's knee insists the Chicago Bulls' star can dominate again. It will take time, though. Rose faces a recovery of eight months to a year. The assessment by team physician Dr. Brian Cole on Tuesday means the point guard could return around mid-January to early February, or miss next season. The doctor added there is a chance Rose could be back sooner, but "we're not going to rush it. " The Bulls had already said Rose has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Giants linebacker Jonathan Goff will miss the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Goff, in his fourth season with the Giants out of Vanderbilt, suffered the injury during Mondays practice. He had 80 tackles and one sack last season, as the Giants finished 10-6. Last week, the Giants lost backup linebacker Clint Sintim to a season-ending knee injury, and all told, they've lost five key members of the defense for the season since training camp opened. New York opens the season against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Ramos' knee buckled as he chased a passed ball during the seventh inning of a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night. New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard tore his left anterior cruciate ligament during the second half of Super Bowl, the team announced on Tuesday. An MRI discovered Ballard's injury, and with the help of crutches, he was able to participate in Tuesday's parade and ceremonies in New York and New Jersey. Ballard, an undrafted free agent, had 38 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns this regular season. In the four playoff games, he had five catches for 43 yards. He had two receptions in the Giants' 21-17 win over New England on Sunday.

Williams says McAdoo did not practice Friday with a sprained left ankle and says it will be a game-time decision. Sizemore was injured Saturday at Oakland's spring training camp in Phoenix. He had an MRI and the A's announced Monday that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament. "Broken heart right here.
