JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The "other" coach isn't bad, either. The Patriots have the cerebral, focused quasi-genius on their side. With four Super Bowl rings in his collection -- two as an assistant with the Giants and two as the boss in New England -- Bill Belichick has become the Coach of the New Millennium, or something like that. If the Patriots win it all again, stand back. A coronation as King Pigskin is about all that's left. Opposing him will be a guy with some OK credentials.

ARLINGTON, Texas - For an entire year, the Dallas Cowboys had to deal with the fallout from a crushing, season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now it is the Eagles’ turn - for this week, at least. Tony Romo threw a pair of early touchdown passes and the defense took over from there, carrying Dallas to a 24-0 victory over Philadelphia yesterday that was filled with milestones for the Cowboys, the most important being that they won the NFC East and will host a rematch in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.

The Houston Texans waived quarterback David Carr , the first draft pick in franchise history five years ago, and running back Domanick Williams yesterday. The Texans never have had a winning record, and Carr often was the scapegoat. He completed 60 percent of his passes, but also threw 65 interceptions and was sacked 249 times in five seasons. He had two years left on a contract that was to pay him $11.5 million for those seasons. Houston hoped Carr would flourish under new coach Gary Kubiak last season, but the Texans went 6-10.

ATLANTA - Michael Vick wobbled off the field with an aching neck late in the third quarter, all done in his return to Atlanta as a starting quarterback. This is Matt Ryan's city now, and he led the Falcons back with their former quarterback sitting in the locker room. Ryan threw a career-high four touchdown passes, shaking off all the hoopla over Vick coming back to face his old team, and rallied Atlanta from a 10-point deficit for a 35-31 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last night.

Andy Reid has no intention of stepping down as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles despite being castigated by a judge who likened the coach's home to a "drug emporium. " Asked at a news conference yesterday whether he planned to coach the Eagles for the long term, Reid answered with one word: "Yes. " The judge's comments were made Thursday, the same day his two sons were sentenced to prison terms. "I know this is a big story for everybody and I respect that," Reid said.

Disgruntled All-Pro receiver Terrell Owens isn't faking a groin injury, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid says. Owens left the morning practice after injuring his left groin yesterday and did not return for the team's afternoon workout in Bethlehem, Pa. "It's a legitimate injury," Reid said. "This guy would never do that. He's not that type of guy. He would never go in that direction. " Owens is still hoping the Eagles will redo his contract. He's beginning the second season of a seven-year deal worth nearly $49 million.
