A day after the Philadelphia Eagles dominated Dallas, Andy Reid wore a Jason mask throughout a 10-minute interview on the team's website. Reid is in a more jovial mood these days, so the usually stoic coach celebrated Halloween on Monday by donning the creepy face gear made popular in the "Friday the 13th" movies. Early in the season, it was the Eagles who were flat-out frightening. But through it all, in a Super Bowl-or-bust year where the criticism kept piling on, Reid took the blame for the dismal 1-4 start.

Chargers president Dean Spanos has decided to keep coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith despite the team missing the playoffs for the second straight season amid increasing fan discontent. Another veteran coach who had been under fire, the Eagles' Andy Reid, is also keeping his job as team chairman Jeffrey Lurie said Reid will return for his 14th season. Spanos made his decision yesterday, two days after the Chargers finished 8-8 by beating Oakland to keep the Raiders out of the playoffs.

Eagles Pro Bowl receiver DeSean Jackson says he has spoken to coach Andy Reid and his teammates, and is ready to move forward after being deactivated Sunday because he missed a meeting. Jackson didn't attend a special teams meeting Saturday morning and was told to stay home the next day. The Eagles lost to Arizona 21-17 to fall to 3-6 in a season that began with Super Bowl aspirations. Jackson acknowledges he probably needs to do certain things better. He's in the final year of his rookie contract and made it clear he wants a new deal when he held out 11 days in training camp.

Andy Reid wasn't ready to discuss the future, even though the Philadelphia Eagles are done for the season. Michael Vick threw for 335 yards and three touchdown passes, including a 62-yarder to DeSean Jackson, and the Eagles beat the Washington Redskins 34-10 Sunday for their fourth straight win. But the strong finish came too late. The Eagles (8-8) failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2007 and just the fourth time in Reid's 13 seasons as coach. Reid took plenty of criticism this season, and heard "Fire Andy!"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The "other" coach isn't bad, either. The Patriots have the cerebral, focused quasi-genius on their side. With four Super Bowl rings in his collection -- two as an assistant with the Giants and two as the boss in New England -- Bill Belichick has become the Coach of the New Millennium, or something like that. If the Patriots win it all again, stand back. A coronation as King Pigskin is about all that's left. Opposing him will be a guy with some OK credentials.

ARLINGTON, Texas - For an entire year, the Dallas Cowboys had to deal with the fallout from a crushing, season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now it is the Eagles’ turn - for this week, at least. Tony Romo threw a pair of early touchdown passes and the defense took over from there, carrying Dallas to a 24-0 victory over Philadelphia yesterday that was filled with milestones for the Cowboys, the most important being that they won the NFC East and will host a rematch in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.

The Houston Texans waived quarterback David Carr , the first draft pick in franchise history five years ago, and running back Domanick Williams yesterday. The Texans never have had a winning record, and Carr often was the scapegoat. He completed 60 percent of his passes, but also threw 65 interceptions and was sacked 249 times in five seasons. He had two years left on a contract that was to pay him $11.5 million for those seasons. Houston hoped Carr would flourish under new coach Gary Kubiak last season, but the Texans went 6-10.

ATLANTA - Michael Vick wobbled off the field with an aching neck late in the third quarter, all done in his return to Atlanta as a starting quarterback. This is Matt Ryan's city now, and he led the Falcons back with their former quarterback sitting in the locker room. Ryan threw a career-high four touchdown passes, shaking off all the hoopla over Vick coming back to face his old team, and rallied Atlanta from a 10-point deficit for a 35-31 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last night.

Andy Reid has no intention of stepping down as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles despite being castigated by a judge who likened the coach's home to a "drug emporium. " Asked at a news conference yesterday whether he planned to coach the Eagles for the long term, Reid answered with one word: "Yes. " The judge's comments were made Thursday, the same day his two sons were sentenced to prison terms. "I know this is a big story for everybody and I respect that," Reid said.

Disgruntled All-Pro receiver Terrell Owens isn't faking a groin injury, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid says. Owens left the morning practice after injuring his left groin yesterday and did not return for the team's afternoon workout in Bethlehem, Pa. "It's a legitimate injury," Reid said. "This guy would never do that. He's not that type of guy. He would never go in that direction. " Owens is still hoping the Eagles will redo his contract. He's beginning the second season of a seven-year deal worth nearly $49 million.

For all those super expectations, all the preseason hype, all the big-name additions, the Philadelphia Eagles are left to ponder all that went wrong. Despite their late-season surge — a three-game winning streak — the Eagles (7-8) aren't going to the playoffs. That's the reality for this Dream Team. So before they begin looking ahead to next season, they're thinking about the 'what ifs?' One play could be the difference in several of the losses, especially because the Eagles blew five fourth-quarter leads.

DeSean Jackson was peppered with questions about whether he was refusing to talk with teammates on the sideline. Embattled coach Andy Reid was asked if his team was even invested at this point of the season and if Jackson was essentially a decoy. Welcome to a new low in Philadelphia's miserable season. "It's ridiculous to have this much talent and be where we are," Philadelphia offensive lineman Evan Mathis said. Marshawn Lynch bulled through the Eagles for 148 yards and a pair of first-half touchdowns and the Seattle Seahawks rolled...

"Fire Andy! Fire Andy!" Each demanding chant bellowed by fed-up Eagles fans was the most emphatic sign yet that the faithful have turned for good on coach Andy Reid. Reid, who led Philadelphia to five NFC championship games, has been booed and criticized, with calls to talk radio asking for him to resign or for management to can him. But never had they voiced their displeasure like this. The screams reached a crescendo late in the third quarter of Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Patriots after the Eagles failed to convert a fourth-and-1 when Vince...

Michael Vick made no excuses for an awful performance, taking the blame for missing open receivers and throwing poor passes. Perhaps two broken ribs had something to do with it. Vick broke his two lower ribs on the second play of the Eagles' 21-17 loss to Arizona on Sunday. He didn't tell anyone that he was hurt and played through the pain. "He didn't say anything, not a word. He's a tough nut," coach Andy Reid said Monday. "He said he really just blanked it out and played is kind of what he said, and really didn't think twice about it. Star receiver Terrell Owens won't return to the Philadelphia Eagles this season -- or probably ever -- "a result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time," coach Andy Reid said yesterday. Owens was suspended for Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season. Reid said the outspoken player "had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions.

Poor tackling, careless ball security and mental mistakes are a recipe for disaster in the NFL. The inability to execute these basic fundamentals is a main reason why the Philadelphia Eagles — a preseason favorite to reach the Super Bowl — are off to a 1-4 start. "A little review of the last game, it's real simple," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Thursday, "we take care of the ball and we'll do a little bit better. " In a 31-24 loss at Buffalo last Sunday, the Eagles had 489 yards of total offense.

Andy Reid watched film of his team's latest loss and came away feeling a little more positive. He might be the only one. The Philadelphia Eagles are 1-4 following a 31-24 loss at Buffalo on Sunday, and their Super Bowl expectations have been reduced to a mere fantasy. Yet, Reid saw reasons to be encouraged. "I thought the effort was good. I thought as the game went on we continued to get better in most phases of the game," Reid said Monday. "There are some good things we can take out of this game.
