Tim Ambrose had 19 points, including the winning free throw, and 11 rebounds as Albany capped a thrilling last-minute comeback and defeated Boston University, 62-61, in America East action last night in Albany, N.Y. Will Harris added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Great Danes (8-6, 1-1). After falling behind, 20-19, with nine minutes left in the first half, Albany trailed for nearly the entire final 29 minutes until Ambrose hit two clinching free throws with 12.3 seconds remaining.

A 25-year-old upstate New York man has admitted driving his motorcycle at 170 mph as he tried to get away from police who caught him speeding on the Thruway. The Times Union of Albany reports ( http://bit.ly/MqQHl0) that Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charlton will lose his license for 90 days and was sentenced to the 20 days he's already spent in jail. State police said McCarthy was spotted doing 166 mph in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 just south of Albany on May 2. As Albany coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson looked at the long faces after the Great Danes lost to Texas A&M 69-47 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, she implored them to think about all they accomplished this season. "The first thing I said to them was: 'Get your heads up; you guys are winners, no matter what,"' Abrahamson-Henderson said. "We're going to go back and see some banners in our gym for the first time ever, in school history. " It was the first NCAA appearance for No. 14 seed Albany, which got an automatic bid by winning the America East tournament.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur has been taken off injured reserve by the New Jersey Devils after being sidelined more than two weeks with a bruised right shoulder. Brodeur practiced with the Devils on Monday and could play on Wednesday when they play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Prudential Center. The 39-year-old Brodeur was hurt on Oct. 13 making a diving stop against the Los Angeles Kings in the first period. He finished the period and was replaced by Johan Hedberg, who has started the last six games.
