More than 500 people gathered at Faneuil Hall last night to hear a panel of community and civic leaders discuss recent trends in anti-Semitism and a poll showing its rise over the past two years . An ADL-commissioned poll released last week showed a 3 percent rise in anti-Semitism in the United States since 2009. The poll numbers indicated that 15 percent of Americans hold deeply anti-Semitic views. "Anti-Semitism still exists. It's threatening. It's global," Abraham H. Foxman, the ADL's national director and a Holocaust survivor, said in an interview after the event.

MADRID - The Anti-Defamation League said yesterday that a survey it commissioned found nearly a third of Europeans polled blamed Jews for the global economic meltdown and that a greater number thought Jews have too much power in the business world. The Anti-Defamation League New England this week honored parking poobah Jeff Karp with its Torch of Liberty award at the Seaport Hotel. There to congratulate Karp, the cofounder of LAZ Parking, was last year’s recipient of the award, Davio’s owner Steve DiFillippo , as well as Channel 5 reporter Kimberly Bookman , Celtics co-owner Bob Epstein , and ADL NE regional director Derrek Shulman .

The police department in the New Hampshire city of Keene is going to be getting an armored vehicle. On Thursday the city council decided to move forward with a plan to use $250,000 in federal money to buy the vehicle called a "Bearcat. " The vehicle will be used regionally. WMUR-TV ( http://bit.ly/xtADlM) says opponents of the purchase claim it is a waste of money for a quiet corner of New Hampshire. Police say the Bearcat will be in Keene and ready for use this fall.

Police chiefs from Newton, Framingham, and Belmont headed off last weekend for a weeklong counterterrorism seminar in Israel, funded by the Anti-Defamation League.
