HARTFORD - A teenage driver was arrested during the weekend after authorities said the distraction of a handheld cellphone caused her to fatally hit a jogger. Kenneth Dorsey, 44, an avid runner, was on a morning jog in Norwalk, Conn., and training for a marathon March 24, when he was fatally struck by the sport utility vehicle the girl was driving, according to his father, Leo Dorsey. A teenage driver in Connecticut is under arrest after authorities said the distraction of a handheld cellphone caused her to fatally hit a 44-year-old jogger. The victim's father blames his death on "stupidity. " The death of Kenneth Dorsey in Norwalk and the subsequent criminal charges against the 16-year-old driver come as other states are considering measures to force both teenagers and adults to disconnect from cellphones and other electronic devices before getting behind the wheel.

Sailing's national governing body will try to determine what caused an accident that killed four sailors during last month's yacht race from Southern California to Mexico. David Ortiz was unhurt when he was involved in a minor traffic accident with another motorist Friday afternoon as he was making his way to Fenway Park. Ortiz admitted he was at fault after losing control of his Audi R8 after he stopped to get gas at the Shell station on the corner of Boylston and Ipswich streets. "I must have hit some button that was for the back traction [control], and once I took off, it started asking more [power], something crazy," Ortiz said. "I lost a little bit of control and hit this lady.

One person has died and another person is hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 89 in Vermont. State police say the northbound car crashed in Royalton early Saturday afternoon. The 21-year-old driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the crash site. The passenger, 29-year-old Steven Pierre of Manchester, N.H., was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Police say the crash is under investigation, but that witnesses reported that the car was traveling at high rate of speed before the accident.

BOSTON — Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is unhurt after a minor car accident on his way to Fenway Park. WBZ-TV in Boston reported Ortiz was involved in the crash as he was leaving a gas station on Boylston Street on Friday afternoon. Boston police spokesman David Estrada said no injuries and only minor vehicle damage was reported. He didn't immediately have further details. The Red Sox also confirmed Ortiz was unhurt. Ortiz told WBZ: ‘‘I lost a little control coming out of the gas station and I hit a car, but I'm fine.
