Secretary of State William Galvin is reminding voters they have until noon tomorrow to apply in person at their local election office and cast absentee ballots for Tuesday's presidential primary. Voters who had ballots mailed to them must have those completed ballots returned by mail to their election office before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Absentee ballots for the April 28 town election are available in the town clerk's office for those who can't make it to the polls. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The deadline to vote absentee is noon on April 27. Printed copies of the Town Meeting Report were distributed to all households last month in preparation for the annual and special Town Meetings, which begin tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in the Littleton Middle School gymnasium, 55 Russell St. A total of 31 articles are on the warrants, which can also be viewed on the town's website at www.littletonma.org. Absentee ballots are available at the town clerk's office for the presidential primary election, which will be held March 6, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Franklin High School field house on Oak Street. The last day to register to vote is Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. at the town clerk's office in the Municipal Building. Voters in the Republican primary will choose between Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman, Michelle Bachmann and Newt Gingrich.

The deadline to apply at the town clerk's office for an absentee ballot for the annual town election is 5 p.m. on May 18. The town election is May 21. Residents can vote by absentee ballot if they are unable to vote at the polls on Election Day for religious reasons, or because they are out of town or are physically unable. Jennifer Lefferts

Town clerk Mary Ann Smith is reminding residents that Monday is the last day to register to vote for the April 28 annual town election. The clerk's office will be open until 8 p.m. Monday to accommodate voter registrants. Absentee ballots for the election are also available in the clerk's office. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works said that flushing of the town's water lines will begin tomorrow and last for six to eight weeks. The flushing, part of normal maintenance mandated by the state, will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight Mondays through Thursdays.

Town moderator James E. Benson will host a candidates night on April 9 featuring residents running for offices in the April 14 annual town election. The event, open to all, will be held at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. There are two contested races on the ballot this year - for a seat on the Board of Selectmen and a seat on the Board of Assessors - but all candidates have been invited to speak. Also on April 9, the Council on Aging is hosting its annual candidates luncheon, at 11 a.m. at the senior center.

Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin predicts that between 350,000 and 400,000 voters will cast ballots in Tuesday's Republican presidential primary. Galvin said turnout is likely to be higher than in 1996, the last time there was an uncontested Democratic primary. That year, Republican Bob Dole had only weak competition from Pat Buchanan and just 290,000 ballots were cast in the Republican primary.
