MassUniting.org held a protest near Bain Capital headquarters by holding…

Protesters gathered at lunch time today across the street from Bain Capital’s headquarters, criticizing the firm and Mitt Romney for what they called killing jobs out of greed.

“They have made a business out of killing jobs for profit,” said Jason Stephany, spokesman for the group MassUniting.org, which led the protest.

Bain Capital, a Boston-based investment firm, was previously headed by Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is now running to be the Republican nominee for president.

MassUniting says it is a coalition of labor and faith-based groups.

A few dozen people participated in the event, which featured a black coffin on the Copley Square green and three trumpeters playing Taps. They distributed orange flyers around the busy John Hancock Tower area that said, “Bain Capital & Romney: Job Killers” and carried tombstones naming companies like Ampad and Dade Behring, where hundreds of workers lost jobs after Bain investments.

Pastor William Dickerson of Dorchester, who spoke at the protest, said he and members of his congregation were not there for political reasons, but to speak out “for those who are not at the table.”

In an interview, Dickerson said, “It’s always the little people who are left out of the equation.”

The Romney campaign had no immediate comment.
