No way to choose a mayor in Cambridge

THE IMPASSE over selecting a new Cambridge mayor shows why the city needs to fix its broken and senseless process (“Cambridge mayor: The world is waiting,’’ Editorial, Feb. 21). It’s very simple: have the top vote-getter in the city council election take the spot. Leland Cheung was the top vote-getter. He should be mayor.

I understand some people want to have this experience when they’ve been on the council awhile, but we are an embarrassment to the rest of the world.

This is only one of many changes needed in the way Cambridge government works. We need to know more about how these councilors choose whom to vote for, and for them to be more open about it. This should not be a difficult task.
