ON ALL the MBTA’s maps, the Ashmont-Mattapan trolley line is shown as an integral extension of the Red Line. Truncating this service on weekends, one of the T’s cost-cutting proposals, would be just like ending service capriciously for the final four or five stations on either end of the Orange Line, or dropping the Braintree segment of the Red Line on weekends. A solid Red Line should be a permanent line.
